I spent the entire morning trying to convince myself that I was calm. It wasn't working. Every few minutes, my hand would drift toward my stomach without me realizing it, and every time it happened, I would catch Cassius watching me. He hadn't said much since waking up, but there was something different about him. He was quieter, more attentive, and somehow even more protective than usual. When I tried getting out of bed, his hand immediately reached for me. When I walked toward the bathroom, his eyes followed me. When I sat down for breakfast, he moved my chair closer to the table. "Cassius," I finally said, staring at him. "I'm pregnant, not made of glass." "I know." He pushed a plate toward me. "Eat." "I'm not hungry." "Marianne said you need to eat." "Marianne said many things." "And I intend to remember all of them." I sighed but picked up a piece of toast. He smiled, apparently satisfied. The man had become unbearable overnight.
