CHAPTER 21Ariel's POVI blinked, groggily opening my eyes to the dim light of the car.I must have dozed off earlier on.As my eyes adjusted, panic followed in an instant. The car was speeding, and Carlos was driving like a madman. I shot up straight, my eyes wide with fear.“Carlos, what's going on? What's happening?!”I shouted at the top of my lungs. The road ahead seemed to be disappearing, and we were heading straight for a cutout. My heart was racing, and my grip on the seat tightened. What was he doing?!Carlos didn't answer. He didn't even look at me. His eyes were fixed on the road, his jaw clenched. I shouted again, my voice filled with fear. “Carlos! What's wrong? What are you doing?!”His grip on the steering wheel relaxed for a split second, and he finally made the car come to a harsh stop as he hit the brakes. He was panting frantically. “C-Carlos, what's the problem?” I asked again, trying to keep my voice steady. But his phone suddenly rang, breaking the tense silenc

CHAPTER 22Ariel's POV“Ariella, Dermos had transferred blood to you before, didn't he?”I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as Carlos turned to me, his eyes narrowing.I blinked, taken aback. “Huh?” What was he talking about?Carlos's expression turned stern. “You know, that time you were in a car accident on the way to the gala last year. Dermos had to transfer blood to you immediately. It was a close call, and he was worried sick about you.”My frown deepened. What accident? I didn't remember any accident. But Carlos's words sent a shiver down my spine. And I soon realized he was talking about Ariella. She was the one who had been in that accident, not me.I tried to think of an explanation, but my mind was completely blank. “I.. I don't remember.” I stammered, trying to sound convincing. “I mean, it's all a bit fuzzy.”Carlos's eyes narrowed further; he was getting angry. “Fuzzy? Ariella, you were in a coma for days. Dermos was the one who donated blood to save your life

CHAPTER 23Ariel's POVI stared at Luciana. What was she doing here? The last thing I needed was her drama.Luciana smirked, her eyes glinting with malice. Her porcelain skin seemed to glow with an otherworldly sheen, and her smile was a razor-sharp slash across her face. “Me.” She repeated, her voice dripping with satisfaction. “I heard you're quite the philanthropist, Ariella. Giving nothing, taking everything, as usual. Though I suppose it's to be expected from someone who's been getting away with murder, or should I say, marriage?”Carlos's expression remained calm, but mine did not. “Luciana's blood type matched Dermos', Ariella.” He explained. “She's donated blood, and Dermos is stable now. It was a fortunate coincidence that she was available.”I felt different types of emotions, but guilt was the heaviest.Guilt that I wasn't the one who helped Dermos.Luciana's presence was never a good sign. My mind was racing, trying to process how she'd found out about Dermos's condition

CHAPTER 24Ariel's POVI walked into Dermos's hospital room. The machines beeped softly, with it being the only sound in the room. Dermos lay in the bed, his eyes fixed on the ceiling, his face pale but composed. My chest ached against itself, but I stilled myself and fisted my palms by my sides instead.I moved quietly and stopped at the side of his bed, looking down at him. I was Ariella, his wife. I had to play the part.Dermos's gaze didn't move, but his lips curved slightly at the tip. “You shouldn't think I'm helpless just because you're seeing me like this, Ariella. I'd only gotten the gunshot on my stomach because the mansion was dark. That's all.”I didn't say anything. I just walked over towards him, and I stopped at the bedside, looking down at him.“How are you?” I asked, my voice soft.Dermos finally looked up at me. For a moment, I felt like he saw right through me. But his expression didn't change.“You'll still have to leave for Milan.” He said, ignoring my question. “

CHAPTER 25Ariel's POVI stood at the foot of Dermos's bed, watching as the nurse, a cheerful-looking woman with a warm smile, checked his vitals. She was efficient, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that she was touching Dermos a bit, too much. She adjusted the bandage on his abdomen, her fingers lingering on his skin a little longer than necessary. Dermos's eyes were on the ceiling, his expression neutral, but I knew him well enough to see the faint amusement in his gaze.I felt a twinge of irritation, and I had to force myself to relax. It was ridiculous, I knew. The nurse was just doing her job, and Dermos wasn't even reacting. But I couldn't help the way I felt. The nurse chatted with Dermos as she worked, asking him about his pain levels and how he was feeling. Dermos answered her, his voice neutral, but he had an annoying smirk plastered across his lips.I folded my arms across my chest, trying to look nonchalant. The nurse finished checking his vitals and turned to me, smil

CHAPTER 26Ariel's POV“Get your remaining things, Ariella. You'll be leaving for Milan tonight.”I stood in the hallway, Carlos's words still echoing in my mind, and I ran my fingers through my hair, trying to process everything, but my mind was a jumble of thoughts. Before I could move, a loud creak suddenly resounded from downstairs. I froze, my heart racing. The sound was coming from Dermos's study. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should investigate, and my curiosity got the better of me.I made my way downstairs, the creaking growing louder with each step I summoned to take. When I reached the study, I pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was dimly lit, and the only sound was the creaking of the large windows, which were slowly opening and closing in the heavy wind outside.I breathed a sigh of relief, realizing it was just the wind.I walked over to the windows and pushed them shut, securing them in place. As I turned to leave, I felt a sudden tug on my dre

CHAPTER 27Ariel's POVIt was a picture of Dermos and Luciana, together. They were standing on a beach with their arms around each other. The picture seemed to radiate happiness, and I felt like I was intruding on a moment that wasn't meant for me to see.I stared at the picture, and for some reason, my heart ached. But soon, I heard footsteps outside the study, and I quickly shoved the picture into my pocket without thinking, trying to push the thoughts away.I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself, and walked out of the study, shutting the door behind me.~5 Hours LaterThe cityscape of Milan blurred past the car window as we drove through the streets.I stared out, my mind was a million miles away. It had been a long journey, but we'd finally made it.My fingers instinctively went to my pocket, where I'd tucked that... picture. I pulled it out, my eyes tracing the contours of their faces. Dermos's smile was small, his eyes the neutral pull it always held. And Luciana... Sh

CHAPTER 28Dermos' POVI stepped out of the hospital, the sun on my skin a relief after the sterile smell of the place. I took a breath, feeling the fresh air fill my lungs, and began to walk towards my private car.My thoughts were a jumble, but one thing kept nagging at me.Ariella's lips.Soft, gentle, yet passionate. I could still feel the sensation of our kiss, the way she'd responded to me. It was a moment of weakness, one that I'd been trying to shake off since it happened. But now, as I walked, I couldn't help but think about her. About how much I wanted her. It was a distraction, one that I didn't need right now, not after what had happened. But I couldn't shake the feeling.I reached the car and got in, the door shutting behind me with a thump. I leaned back into the seat, my eyes closing as I let my mind wander back to Ariella. She's been in Milan for a week now.And not seeing her, even though I hated to admit it, was torturing me.Everything about her was intoxicating, an

CHAPTER 29Ariel's POVI felt a shiver run down my spine as I stared at the phone, my heart racing in my throat. This was déjà vu.I remembered getting weird messages from a number a while back, back at Dermos' mansion. It had stopped after a month, and I'd thought it was over. I'd even blocked the number. But now, it seemed like this person had just gotten a new number and was at it again. My mind was racing as I tried to process this. Who was this person? And how the fuck did they know I was in the Jacuzzi?I gazed around searching for any sight of a camera, but there was none. What in the world was going on?The phone dinged again, and I jumped, startled by the sound. The message read;[Seems like you're enjoying Dermos' hospitality]My eyes widened as I felt a chill run down my spine.I quickly stepped out of the Jacuzzi, wrapping a towel around myself. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. I hurriedly cleaned up and headed to the room, trying to process exactly w

CHAPTER 30Ariel's POVHow did this happen?I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, like all the air had been sucked out of me.I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. This couldn't be happening. It wasn't possible. There had to be some mistake.I thought back to everything that had happened, trying to piece together the puzzle. But it was like trying to grasp a handful of sand; it kept slipping through my fingers.||I was drifting off to sleep, the exhaustion from the day finally catching up with me.I'd been waiting for Dermos to arrive, wondering when he'd show up. But as my eyelids grew heavy, I couldn't keep them open anymore.I suddenly felt a presence in the room, and my eyes snapped open.I slowly rose to look over my feet, and I froze when I saw a shadowy figure sitting in the corner, watching me. My heart skipped a beat as I sat up, pulling the covers to my chest. But as I looked closer, the figure shifted, and I saw Dermos' face.He was watching me, a serene look on
