ASHLEY I slipped the last file into place and closed the cabinet, taking a moment to straighten the stack before stepping out of the storage room. The moment I walked out, I stopped short. Jordan was heading straight toward me. I dipped my head in a brief acknowledgment, already moving to pass him, but his voice stopped me. "I heard Selene is absent today. Did she tell you why she couldn’t come in?" I exhaled quietly, turning back to face him. "I haven't had the chance to speak with her," I admitted. "But I was able to reach Mr. Kingsley. He said she's fine." Jordan gave a small nod, though something in his expression didn't quite settle. "If you're worried," I added, folding my arms, "why don’t you try calling her yourself?" He blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Me?" He pointed at his chest. "Yes, you." I arched a brow. "You’re her brother. There’s nothing wrong with checking up on her."
