“We need to talk,” Dominic repeated. Chelsea stood quietly beside him, her hand still resting over her stomach. I walked down the stairs slowly. Each step felt heavy. “Talk,” I said. My voice sounded calm. I did not know where that calm came from. Dominic gestured toward the sofa. “Sit.” “I’ll stand.” Chelsea lowered herself onto the couch like she already knew her place in the house. Just then, Mrs Ainsworth, my mother in law, walked into the living room from outside. She looked at me scornfully before moving to seat beside Chelsea asking if she was okay, that one gave a nod.
