CHAPTER ONE:Elena's POVI learned early that silence keeps you safe. When you are the mistake in a family of perfection, when your existence is a source of shame rather than pride, you learn to make yourself small. You learn to move through rooms like a ghost. To speak only when spoken to. To disappear into corners and hope no one remembers you are there. My name is Elena Ashford. And I am the daughter my parents wish they never had.The morning starts like every other morning in the Crescent Moon Pack estate. I wake before dawn, dress quickly in the plain gray dress that marks me as different from my sister. Then I slip out of my small bedroom before anyone else stirs. The house is massive. Built for a family of importance, with high ceilings and expensive furniture and portraits of powerful ancestors lining the walls.None of those portraits include me.I make my way down the servant stairs, the ones I am expected to use rather than the main staircase, and enter the kitchen where th

Chapter 2

CHAPTER TWO: Elena POV. I stand on shaking legs. "May I see Elise? Before I go?"My mother shakes her head. "She is too ill for visitors. You will only risk catching her sickness."Even now, even when I am sacrificing myself for her, they will not let me see my own sister. The cruelty of it breaks something inside me, but I do not cry. I will not give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry."Is there anything else?" I ask, my voice empty."Go to your room," my father says, already looking down at papers on his desk, dismissing me. "The servants will help you prepare."I walk back through the estate in a daze. Servants watch me with pitying eyes, they have already heard what is happening. News travels fast in a pack house. By tomorrow, everyone will know that the worthless omega daughter is being sent away, and they will be relieved to be rid of the family embarrassment. In my small room, I sink onto my bed and finally let the tears come. I cry for the life I will never have, for the

Chapter 3

CHAPTER THREE:Elena's POVThe journey was everything I feared it would be.Three days of endless travel through dark forests and over mountain passes. Three days locked in a windowless carriage with only brief stops for necessities. Three days of silence from the guards who treated me like dangerous cargo, not speaking to me except to give short commands.I tried to prepare myself for what was coming. I rehearsed the lie in my mind, practised walking like Elise, talking like Elise, being someone I am not. I apply the alpha pheromone perfume every morning as my mother instructed, checking constantly to make sure my omega scent is hidden. But underneath the preparation, fear eats at me like a living thing. On the third night, we camp at the base of a mountain range, and I can see lights in the distance. Bloodstone Fortress, the guards tell me. We will arrive tomorrow.I barely slept that final night. I lay in the carriage, listening to the guards talk around the campfire. They spoke of

Chapter 4

CHAPTER FOUR: Elena POV.But he pulled back at the dime minutes. His expression unreadable. I saw confusion flicker across his handsome features, just for a moment. He knows that Something is not quite right, but he cannot identify what.I secretly took a sigh of relief."You smell different than I expected," he says, his voice deep and rough, like gravel rolling over stone.I swallow hard. "How so, Your Majesty?""Sweeter," he says. "Alpha pheromones are usually sharper. Yours are..." He trails off, studying me again. "Perhaps it is the journey. Travel affects scent."I nodded, not trusting my voice. He reached out suddenly, taking my chin in his hand and tilting my face up to his. His touch was firm but not painful. His golden eyes bore into mine, searching."You are not what I was told to expect," he said quietly.Terror ran through my entire body. "What were you told to expect, Your Majesty?""A warrior princess. Strong and fierce, But you..." His thumb brushes my cheek, and the g

Chapter 5

Chapter fiveElena POV A servant entered with a tray of food, fresh bread, roasted meat, vegetables, fruit, wine. More food than I would eat in a week at home."The Lycan King has ordered a bath drawn for you as well, my lady," the servant says. "Shall I prepare it?""Yes, please," I say, suddenly desperate to wash away the dust of travel and the touch of those silver chains. The servant disappeared into the bathing room, and I heard water running. I took the opportunity to study the expensive room, The luxury feels wrong, like I am playing dress-up in someone else's life. But I am supposed to be Elise, and Elise would accept these things as her due. When the bath is ready, I sink into the hot water and close my eyes. For a few moments, I let myself forget everything. I am not Elena. I am not an omega pretending to be an alpha. I am not a liar wrapped in chains.I am just a girl in a bath, warm and clean and safe. But safety is an illusion. I know it cannot last.Tomorrow, Kieran sai

Chapter 6: scent of lies

CHAPTER SIX: The Scent of LiesKieran's POVSomething was wrong with my bride.I knew it the moment she stepped into my throne room, wrapped in borrowed confidence and a scent that did not quite fit her petite figure. My wolf had been restless ever since, pacing inside my mind like a caged animal, whispering words I refused to hear.Mate!!Impossible.I watched her throughout dinner, this Elise Ashford who smelled like sunshine instead of steel, who flinched at gentle touches and trembled when warriors laughed too loud was slowly becoming my center of attraction. Victoria did what she was known for. She circled her like a predator preying on her weakness, asking tricky questions designed to trap, and the girl stumbled through answers that any true alpha would have given without thought. She was not what her father promised. Not what I expected. Not what she claimed to be.And it disturbed me to my core. But my wolf did not care about logic. It wanted her with a hunger that terrified m

Chapter 7: the Gilded cage

The Gilded CageElena's POV“You will attend my bed tonight.”The words circled in my mind like vultures, picking at what remained of my composure. I managed to reach my room, without stumbling on my dress. I sat on the edge of the massive bed in my chambers, my hands shaking so badly I had to clasp them together to keep them still. He was going to bed me. Tonight. And when he did, he would know. He would know I was not Elise. He would know I had never been with a man. He would know that I was a fraud… and then he would kill me for the deception.I stood and paced the room, my breath coming too fast, my heart hammering against my ribs like it wanted to escape. The emerald dress suddenly felt too tight, suffocating. I pulled at the robes, desperate for air. What did I do to deserve this?Maybe I had worn too much makeup. Maybe I had smiled too much at dinner, or not enough. Maybe something in my mannerisms had given me away, and this was his way of punishing me, of exposing the lie in

Chapter 8: The Wolf at the door

Elena's POVThe door closed behind Mira with a soft click that sounded like a prison lock sliding into place.Kieran stood in the center of my chambers, filling the space with his presence in a way that made the enormous room feel suddenly small. He wore black as always, but tonight the clothing seemed more deliberate. The shirt was partially unlaced at the throat, revealing the strong column of his neck and the edge of a tattoo I had never noticed before. His hair was loose around his shoulders, making him look less like a king and more like something wild that had wandered in from the mountains. His golden eyes found mine and held them, even from across the room. I could not look away even though every instinct screamed at me to run."Wine?" he asked, his voice low and rough.I nodded because I could not trust my voice. He moved to the small table where a decanter and glasses I didn't even know existed, waited, his movements fluid and controlled. Everything about him was controlled.

Chapter 9: confusing feelings

Chapters 9Elena povThe command was soft, but to me, it sounded more like a god looking at me from above. absolute. I reached for the laces at the back of my gown with shaking fingers, fumbling with knots that suddenly seemed impossible to untie.Kieran watched my struggle for a moment, then when I thought he would enjoy my plight for a moment longer, he moved "Let me help you," he breathed over my neck, sending chills down my spine.I went very still. I couldn't even breathe properly from the close proximity. I could feel his chest against my back, could feel his hot breath fanning my neck, as His fingers worked the knots with practiced ease, loosening the bodice of my dress so smoothly I couldn't even think of how many laces he had untied.Panic flooded through me again. This was happening too fast. I was not ready. I would never be ready. But I could not run. I could not show weakness. The last lace came free and the dress slipped from my shoulders, leaving me only in my undies,

Chapter 10: the hidden princess

The Hidden PrincessElise's POVI stared at the ceiling of my bedroom and counted the cracks in the stone for the hundredth time. Seventeen. There were always seventeen cracks, spreading out like tree branches from the corner near the window.A wicked smile tugged at my lips. Elena thought there were only twelve. She had counted them once when she visited me, her face full of worry and guilt. Sweet, stupid Elena. She never looked closely enough at anything.None of them bothered to, anyways The morning light came through my window and I stretched lazily under the silk sheets, feeling the strength in my muscles. My body hummed with energy, with power that grew stronger every day. But nobody knew that. Nobody could know that. Not yet.I heard footsteps approaching and quickly arranged myself into position. Pale face. Shallow breathing. Weak, trembling hands clutching the blanket. I had practiced this performance so many times it came naturally now.The door opened and Mother entered, h
