MY ALPHA FATHER'S BEST FRIEND

MAYA’S POVThe thing about being the daughter of two pack Alphas is that everyone treats you like you’re made of glass. Breakable. Precious. Something to be protected and kept safely tucked away behind iron gates and armed guards. It’s suffocating. My father, Alpha Rob Ashford, leads the Crescent Falls pack—one of the oldest and most powerful packs on the East Coast. We’ve got territory that spans three states, wealth that most human billionaires would envy, and enough political power in the shifter world to make other Alphas nervous. Our estate reflects that power. Twenty acres of pristine land surrounded by walls that look decorative but are actually reinforced steel. Security cameras hidden in every tree. Guards stationed at every entrance, all of them wolves from our pack who’d die before letting a threat through.I grew up in this gilded cage, and I’ve been trying to break free since I was old enough to understand what freedom meant. But then my uncle, Alpha Marcus of the Norther

I ran to the window and watched as Damon’s black Range Rover came to a stop in front of the house. The vehicle suited him, it was expensive, powerful, built to handle rough terrain. He climbed out and my breath caught in my throat. He was wearing dark jeans and a fitted black t-shirt that stretched across his chest and shoulders in a way that should be illegal. His boots were worn and practical—Alpha boots, meant for shifting and running. His dark hair was slightly messy, like he’d been running his hands through it during the drive. He moved like a predator. Smooth, controlled, every motion deliberate. Pure dominant alpha male, and my wolf was practically rolling over and showing her belly.Down, girl.He grabbed a duffel bag from the back seat and headed for the front door. He had a key, Dad had given him access to the house years ago but I wasn’t about to let him just walk in and find me waiting like some eager puppy.I positioned myself at the top of the stairs, leaning against the

DAMONI am so completely fucked.Standing in Rob’s Alpha suite, surrounded by his scent and his authority, trying to will my cock to calm down after his daughter just pressed every single one of my buttons. When Rob called me last week and asked if I could stay at the estate while they dealt with Marcus’s rogue problem, I should have said no. Should have made up an excuse about pack business or territorial issues or literally anything else. But I didn’t. I said yes.Because I’m a weak, selfish bastard who wanted to spend two weeks alone with Maya. The Moon help me.It started three years ago, the night of her first shift. I’d been there—Rob had asked me to be present in case she needed help controlling the wolf. Some young shifters struggled with their first transformation, needing an Alpha’s dominance to bring them back. But Maya had shifted like she’d been doing it her whole life. Smooth, controlled, and beautiful. Her wolf was pure white with pale gold eyes, smaller than a male but

DAMONShe pulls out her phone and starts scrolling through options, leaning against me like it’s the most natural thing in the world. I let her, because I’m weak and she feels too good against my side.We end up ordering from a local grill that delivers to the estate. While we wait, Maya disappears upstairs, calling back that she’s going to “get comfortable.”That should probably worry me, but I’m too busy trying to calm my wolf down. The food arrives forty minutes later. Maya comes back down wearing…Oh, Moon help me.She’s changed into sleep shorts that are somehow even tinier than the ones before, and an oversized t-shirt that keeps slipping off one shoulder. Still no bra. Her long hair is piled on top of her head in a messy knot, and she looks soft and warm and absolutely edible.“I’m starving,” she announces, grabbing plates from the cabinet. We eat at the kitchen island. Or rather, I eat like a normal person while Maya picks at her food and keeps stealing glances at me.“Not hun

DAMONI stay out until after midnight, running patrols I don’t need to run, checking security protocols that are already perfect, doing anything I can to avoid going back to that house.Because if I go back while Maya’s still awake, I’m going to do something we’ll both regret. The way she looked at me. The way she pressed against me. The way she fucking smelled—arousal and pheromones so potent my wolf was screaming at me to pin her down and claim her.I’d almost done it. Had been half a second away from kissing her when Derek’s text came through.Saved by the fucking bell.I drive around the perimeter one more time, checking in with each patrol team, before finally accepting that I can’t stay out here all night. When I pull up to the house, all the lights are off except for a dim glow from upstairs. Maya’s room.My wolf perks up immediately. She’s awake.No. Absolutely not.I let myself in quietly and head straight upstairs, keeping my eyes firmly away from her door.In the Alpha suit

MAYAI wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee, and for a second I’m confused. Then I remember—Damon’s here.I smile into my pillow, remembering the shirt I left for him. I wonder if he found it yet. Wonder what his reaction was.The thought makes me squirm with arousal all over again.I throw on a sports bra and the tightest yoga pants I own…the ones that are practically see-through when I bend over and one of those cropped sweatshirts that shows my stomach. Then I pad downstairs barefoot.Damon’s in the kitchen, standing at the stove, and the sight of him makes me stop in the doorway. He’s wearing jeans that hug his ass perfectly and a gray henley with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, showing off his forearms. His dark hair is still damp from the shower—from my shower and he hasn’t shaved, so his jaw is covered in dark stubble. He looks domestic and dangerous all at once, and my wolf is practically begging me to go rub against him.“Morning,” I say, leaning against the doorfram

MAYA Sera’s my best friend, but she’s also got a massive crush on Damon. Has since we were teenagers. And she’s always been competitive with me about everything. I watch as she climbs out of her car, wearing a tiny dress that barely covers anything. Three unmated males from our pack are with her—Tyler, Brock, and Mason. All of them strong, good-looking, probably here because they can smell me even from outside the gates. “I didn’t invite them,” I say quickly. “I know.” Damon’s voice is tight. “But we can’t turn them away without causing issues. They’re pack.” Sera’s already knocking on the door, her voice calling out. “Maya! I know you’re in there! Come on, let us in!” Damon looks at me, and I can see the frustration in his eyes. “Get dressed. Something that covers more skin. Now.” The Alpha command in his voice makes my wolf want to obey immediately, but I resist. “You don’t get to tell me what to wear.”

MY ALPHA FATHER'S BEST FRIEND 8

DAMON I’m about two seconds away from throwing every single one of these wolves out of the house. Watching these unmated males circle around Maya, scenting her, trying to get her attention—it’s taking everything I have not to shift and show them exactly who she belongs to. Except she doesn’t belong to me. She can’t belong to me. But my wolf doesn’t care about that. He’s snarling and pacing, demanding I claim her in front of all of them, make it clear she’s ours. And Sera. Fuck, Sera’s touching me constantly, batting her eyelashes, pressing her tits against my arm. Under normal circumstances I might be flattered—she’s pretty enough, clearly interested but right now all I want to do is push her away and tell her I’m not available. Because I’m not. Even though I should be. Even though there’s no logical reason why I can’t pursue someone like Sera—unmated, appropriate age, not my best friend’s daughter. But I don’t wa

MAYATwo days after my father comes home, the full moon rises.I’m restless. Agitated. My wolf is pacing and snarling, furious that we’re stuck here instead of with Damon.Dad notices, of course.“You okay, sweetheart?” he asks at dinner. “You seem tense.”“Just the moon,” I say, pushing food around my plate. “You know how it is.”He nods sympathetically. “Why don’t you run with the pack tonight? Might help.”“Maybe.”But I don’t want to run with the pack. Don’t want to be surrounded by wolves who aren’t him.I want Damon. After dinner, I retreat to my room and try to distract myself. But nothing works. All I can think about is those five minutes in his arms. The way he kissed me like he was drowning and I was air. The way he felt pressed against me.The way he left without fighting for me.My phone buzzes. A text from an unknown number.*How are you holding up?*My heart jumps. I know that tone, even in text form.*”Damon?”**Yeah. Got your number from your dad’s phone. Hope that’s o

MAYADad’s office is on the opposite side of the house. I can hear him on the phone, his Alpha voice carrying through the walls as he deals with pack business.Perfect.I slip downstairs and out the back door, shifting to wolf form the second I hit the trees. My white wolf streaks through the forest, moving fast and silent. The full moon is huge overhead, turning everything silver. My wolf feels powerful, alive, desperate to get to our…mate?Because that’s what Damon is, I realize. Even if he won’t admit it. Even if we haven’t completed the bond. He’s mine. And I’m his.I just need to make him accept it.I reach the north gate in ten minutes, shifting back to human form behind a cluster of trees. I pull my hoodie back on, zipping it up. I’m naked underneath—shifting destroys clothes but I don’t care.Actually, that might work in my favor.Headlights appear on the road. Damon’s truck. The guard at the gate—a wolf named Marcus nods to him and waves him through. They exchange a few words
