Conrad's POVThe roar of the crowd shook the palace.Even from the upper corridors, I could hear thousands of demons cheering as the final duel unfolded in the arena below.Perfect.Everyone important was watching the tournament Including the King and even most of the palace guards.Which meant we finally had the opportunity we'd been waiting for. I adjusted the dark cloak over my shoulders and glanced down the empty hallway."It's clear."Hansel stepped out from behind a marble pillar. In her demon disguise, she looked even more beautiful. "You sure this is a good idea?" she whispered."No." I smirked. "But we're doing it anyway."She rolled her eyes. "I missed your confidence.""I missed your sarcasm."She bumped my shoulder. "I wasn't being sarcastic.""You usually are."A tiny smile escaped her lips before disappearing just as quickly. Her expression turned serious."Let's go."I nodded and we moved. The palace corridors were eerily quiet and no one was around, they had all gone

Mila’s POVThe arena was deafening. Thousands of demons filled the stands, their voices rising into one massive roar that seemed to shake the ground beneath my feet.I stood in the center of the fighting circle, my sword gripped tightly in my hand.Across from me Elle smiled. There was no Celestia anymore, no second opponent standing between us.Just her and me.The final round.I glanced toward the royal platform. The Demon King sat comfortably upon his throne, watching us with those unsettling crimson eyes.Vaelor stood nearby, his expression was impossible to read but I knew him well enough now.He was worried and I could feel it. I looked away before my heart could become distracted.I couldn’t think about what would happen if I lost.I needed to focus. The chief judge stepped into the center of the arena.“Lady Mila.”“Lady Elle.”“You have both successfully completed the first two trials.”“Only one of you shall emerge victorious from the final trial.”He raised his hand. “The

Hansel’s POVThe guard’s fingers closed around my arm. I fought harder.“Let me go!”Two of them had me now.One had both hands wrapped around my waist while the other held my wrists behind my back.I kicked wildly. “Get off me!”“Stop struggling!”“Go to hell!”I twisted violently, trying to break free but they were stronger than me. One of them shoved me toward the door.“Move!”“No!”My eyes immediately went to the floor. The Dark Grimoire lay several feet away.My heart dropped i couldn’t leave it behind. That book was our only chance. The guard holding my wrists suddenly released one hand.He bent down and my eyes widened.“No!”He picked up the book. The moment his fingers touched the cover thr book reacted and a burst of black flames erupted from its pages. The guard screamed. “AAAAH!”He dropped it immediately.I stared in horror as the flames crawled up his arm.“What the—” The other guard released me.I didn’t waste the opportunity.I slammed my elbow into his stomach. He g

Conrad’s POVI didn’t like the sound of that horn. The moment it echoed through the palace, something inside me told me that we’d run out of time.I glanced at Hansel and she was still clutching the Dark Grimoire against her chest.“We need to split up.” I said Her eyes widened. “What?”“You stay here.”“Conrad there’s no need to play hero”“Hide Hansel, I need to get Mila and Knox.”I looked around the narrow corridor we’d slipped into. There was an abandoned storage room nearby. The door was barely visible behind a massive stone pillar. I pointed toward it. “Go in there.”Hansel stared at me. “You want me to hide?”“Yes.”“While you go after Knox and Mila?”“Exactly.”“Absolutely not.”I sighed. “Hansel coming with me isn’t safe.”“No.”“We don’t have time to argue.”“I’m not letting you go alone.”“I’m not going alone.”I pointed toward my sword. “I’ll have Knox.”“That’s not what I meant.”I stepped closer. “We need that book.”Her arms tightened around it. “I know.”“If the King

Knox’s POVThe demon’s claws dug deeper into my ankle. Pain shot up my leg. I gritted my teeth and tightened my grip on Mila’s wrist.“No!”The portal was shrinking, if it closed now, we’ll be trapped forever. The demon snarled and pulled harder.Behind him, the Demon King raised his hand.Dark magic gathered around his palm.“You’re not leaving,” he said coldly.I looked at Mila and admist all thr chaos she was still unconscious, her body halfway through the portal.I wasn’t letting go.Not after everything we’d sacrificed to get here.A growl rumbled deep inside my chest.Nikal answered. Power surged through every muscle in my body.I planted my free foot against the floor and twisted sharply. The demon wasn’t expecting it.My heel slammed into his jaw.Crack! He cried out in pain, his grip loosening for just a second and that was all I needed. I kicked again, this time with everything I had.His claws tore away from my ankle. The force sent him crashing backward into two other gua
