MELISSAIt had been a long day; aside from working around the kitchen like a dog to make dinner and then serving it, the words that Tema had thrown at me all day were far more hurtful than any pain I felt in my legs."You do not have any children to nurse, so why don't you help out in the kitchen?""There is no child in your womb, so why don't you cook the meal all by yourself?""You have nothing better to do; instead of being idle all day, why don't you occupy your day with house chores?"No one could stop Tema when she started those kinds of subtle insults. I sigh as I get into the room to see Kellan on the couch, tapping aggressively on his controller. He had been out of a job for a month now, and he did not care at all."I am enjoying a break after such a long time," he would say anytime I tried to bring it up. Why did I think that Kellan was such a prize that I had to take him off Luneth? Wouldn't it have been better if she were the one who got married to him? I wouldn't have to g

DREXON"I think you might want to speak to Senator Smith.""You think now is a good time?" I asked Marcus over lunch, and he nodded. It was not supposed to be lunch, but he had barged into my office with two takeout boxes and asked that we have lunch like old times. According to his claims, since Luneth had walked into my life, I had been so busy with everything else that we had not had any time together. Thinking back on it, it seems like he was right about it."He is already under a lot of heat now; if he were to share with his daughter, I am sure he would take any escape route.""Set up a meeting," I say, because the faster we are out of this, the better for us."I am going to come along with you just to be safe," Marcus said after typing on his phone. Hurriedly, he looked up at me, and I could tell that he had set up the meeting already."Did Luneth put you up to this?" I ask, and he does not respond but shrugs. I do not speak because I know she'd want to come if she knew I was goi

LUNETH"What do you say about a trip?""A trip?" I ask as I sit in bed. Drexon is busy getting ready for work, while I lie in bed for an extra minute if I can get it. My eyebrow raises in confusion. "What trip?"He leaves his tie, tired of trying to make it look perfect, as he comes to sit beside me on the bed. "I thought you were against a trip?" I asked because he had been against it."I usually take time off this time of the year and spend vacation away with the kids. We tour as many countries as we can and...""Are you going to be there, or is it going to be just me and the kids?" I shift in bed towards him as my hand goes to his tie to help him."I was thinking you guys would go ahead, and I would wrap up everything here and join you in a week." I saw his eyes, and whatever it was that he wanted to do scared me so much that it felt like it had already happened, because why did scenes of me losing him forever just flash before my eyes?"No," I say, not wanting to hear more and maki

LUNETH"Breakfast is over," I say once the kids' plates are cleared. Rose had long stopped eating, claiming she was full, but instead of saying anything to fuel her, I just sat there and gently munched on the meal while helping Aria successfully finish her food."Finally!" She could not help but slip up. She cleared her throat and avoided everyone's eyes. Drexon got up and gave me a questioning look, and I hoped that my eyes told him that I had all of this under control. I could handle inside the house; all he should worry about was what was happening outside."Daddy is off to work," I say to the kids, and they hug him as usual before disappearing into their rooms. I walk him out of the room, and he looks at me."I got this," I say as I plant a kiss on his cheek."I know I am just...""Worried?" I ask, and he doesn't hesitate to nod. "Well, don't be; I got this," I say, more smug than Rose would ever be."Okay then, but call me if anything happens." I nod, and he walks off and then ret

LUNETHI stir from sleep and turn to see Drexon's spot empty. This was the first time this had ever happened in four months, and I feel sick in my stomach. Was I insensitive to him and his needs? Did I only think of myself and the revenge I could get? Was I deluding myself to think I was doing this for us when I was just plain selfish? When he got home from work, I had been so excited to tell him how I got the evidence from his mom, handed him the flash drive, and was all ready to hear what Senator Smith had offered, but all of it was met with casualness. It was the first time I felt that from him. I wanted to ask; I really did want to ask, but I pushed it off."He is fine; maybe the stress of it all was getting to him, and I shouldn't be worried," I told myself. Was that my way of justifying my actions? When we lay in bed, he still held me gently in his arms until I fell asleep. When did he sneak out of bed? I push myself into a seated position, the blanket falling to my waist gently
