Chapter 11 Ignore him

Freya’s POVThe sun was too hot today, or maybe it was just me. My feet ached badly from walking around all morning, going from one office to another, only to hear the same words over and over again.“Sorry, we’re not hiring.”“You’re not what we’re looking for.”“We’ll get back to you.”They never do. It was all a lie. Once I heard those words, I always lost hope because the probability of being called back was one in a million.I stepped out of the last building, my chest heavy and my hands gripping the hand of my aging totebag. My savings were almost gone. I had bills to pay, food to buy… but no one seemed to care. The cool air outside did nothing to reduce the heat in my head.My stomach growled loudly. I checked my purse, I had little to spare. To make matters worse, snack sellers kept passing by, and the sweet smell of pies wafted through my nose.I kept walking, with my eyes on my phone. My legs hurt with every step, and all I wanted was to be in the comfort of my home, drinking

Chapter 12 Your days are numbered

Mia drew the scarf around her face, shielding it from the scorching sun as she crossed the road. Jasper had thrown her out of the house, every effort she'd made to try to get to him had failed. Coming to his company was the last option she had.She knocked repeatedly on the steel gate until the gateman came. He had a frown on his face when he saw her. What did she want again?"Are you blind or stupid?" Mia asked. "Open the gate, I want to see my man.""Madam, your man is not here." The gateman retorted. "This is a very big company, if you're looking for your man, check the lost and found."Mia looked at him from head to toe. "How dare you talk to me in such a manner?" She banged on the gate. "Open this gate right now.""The boss has given me strict instructions not to let you or anyone who looks like you enter this building." He informed her.Mia couldn't believe her ears. Jasper was hell-bent on throwing her out of his life for good and she couldn't allow that."Just let me in," she p

Chapter 13 Stubborn beta

I was busy folding my clothes that I had packed off the line when my phone rang. I glanced at the screen, it was a call from an unknown number.“Hello?” I said, a bit careful. Taking calls from unknown numbers was something I didn't like.A woman’s polite voice came through from the other end of the line. "Good morning," she greeted me and I answered."Am I speaking to Miss Freya?" Not waiting for an answer, she continued. "This is the HR department of the Silver Moon Pack Company. We’d like you to come in for an interview—immediately, if that will be possible.”For a moment, I thought I didn't hear correctly. "Yes I'm Freya, are you sure you've called the right number?"She called out my full name. It wasn't a mistake.“Me? For an interview?” I blinked.“Yes. Can you make it to the office in the next hour?”I almost laughed, but quickly placed an arm over my mouth. How was this possible? I hadn't even applied for a job there. For weeks, I'd been sending my portfolio to smaller compani

Chapter 14 I will never let anything happen to you

The moment I was sure that the stubborn beta had gone, I pushed my curtains back and I kicked off my shoes, falling onto the couch, and exhaled.“That guy from earlier,” Bree’s voice echoed lazily into my mind, “the one who wanted to drop you off, there's something off about him.”I rolled my eyes. “I don't think so. He looked like any other man who was trying to act like he was a superhero, in order to save a lady."“No. There was a lot going on there. I could scent his wolf." Bree insisted. "And it wasn’t just any wolf. It was a familiar one.” She added.I scoffed, running my fingers through my hair. My shoulders were still aching, I'd give anything to get a full body massage. “Maybe you just miss him, whoever he is. You're just imagining his scent, I don't think there's any mystery to be solved here."Bree didn’t respond immediately.“You know what I want, Bree? I want love—real love. No fancy cars. No men throwing money at me like I’m for sale.” I said. "I want a man who will love

Chapter 15 Important call

Freya stared at me like she couldn’t decide if I was reckless or just plain crazy for doing what I had just done.“You know Jasper is an Alpha, right?” she said finally, her brows drawing together. She let go of me, and sat down on the couch. "I'm really scared."I shrugged, sitting next to her. “I don’t care if he’s a god. He’s not touching you.” I said firmly. "Even if I have to fight an entire pack just to save you, I'll gladly do it." Every word I said, I meant it.Her lips parted in disbelief. “Won’t he… contact his Alpha? Report you and have them punish you?”I cringed slightly at the thought, then smiled. “Don’t worry. I don't think his Alpha is one who makes rash decisions. Even if he tries, I doubt the Alpha is that jobless to listen to a crazy man like him.”She didn’t look convinced, but she didn't push further and I was glad. She turned away, rose up to her feet heading for the kitchen."I'm really hungry." She said on“For both of us,” she rolled her eyes without looking u

Chapter 16 Jasper would harm Orson

Freya’s POVIt was my second day at work, and I’d already decided I wasn’t going to give anyone a reason to doubt me. Till now, I found it hard to believe I worked here.I kept my head down, my fingers were moving fast as I inputted the file that my supervisor had given me earlier. Each and every task that had been given to it, I made sure to do it in time. The silence of the office was comforting — until a shadow fell across my desk.I looked up to see a man in a black t-shirt and matching trousers. In his hand was a massive bouquet of red roses and a couple of neatly wrapped gift bags.I blinked. “Uh… can I help you?” I asked, my eyes moving from the gifts to his face.“These are for you,” he said, putting them on my desk. "From someone special."I shook my head and pushed them back toward him. “I think you’ve got the wrong person.” Why would anyone want to send flowers to me? There was another Freya in the building, maybe she's the one.“No, Miss Freya,” he replied with a polite smi

Chapter 17 Finance department

Orson’s POVI stepped forward. “What’s going on here?”"You again? Why do you keep interfering in my business?” Jasper said, but his voice didn't sound as arrogant as it was the last time I had met him.My eyes darkened. “She’s my mate. That makes it my business.” I moved closer, my eyes on Freya who was still on his shoulders.“Drop her,” I said evenly, my voice carrying a warning that if he didn't, I'd take a drastic step . “I won't say it again.”Jasper’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on Freya’s body. “Step aside and mind your business.”If only he knew whom he was dealing with. I took a step closer, unblinking nor scared. “She is my business.”For a moment, his jaw clenched, then he dropped her , pushing her with a sharp shove toward me. She almost fell but regained her balance as the two of us squared up, toe to toe, holding each other's fierce gaze.Jasper’s gaze was sharp with challenge. “Do you know who you’re talking to?" He asked. "Do you know the person who stands befor

Chapter 18 No woman can replace me

The sound of her heels clicked against the marbled floor as she made her way to the top floor where Orson's office was. She knocked lightly before pushing open the door.A deep frown settled on his face when he saw who had entered. Marie.Orson looked at Rosa, who had the same surprised look on her face, both wondering what Marie wanted."Hey darling," she smiled, walking to them. "Why are you looking at me as though you've seen a ghost?" She took off her glasses, placing them carefully on the table.Orson wasn't too pleased to see her, but he kept his cool. Marie moved closer, trying to hug Orson and he backed away, keeping a safe distance from her."What are you doing here?" He demanded, his eyes cold and his voice laced with contempt.Marie chuckled lightly. "Baby, don't you miss me?" She asked.Rosa rolled her eyes. Marie was impossible. Was it hard to read the room or understand the fact that Orson wanted nothing to do with her?"Marie, why have you come here?" His voice was sharp

Chapter 19 Could not stop looking

Jasper, who was going through the files his secretary had just brought in, heard a knock on the door. The door opened momentarily and Elena, his twin sister walked in."Elena, what a pleasant surprise." He set the file down. He wasn't expecting her at all.Elena, on the other hand, wasn't too pleased to see him. She had to cut her trip short just to return and knock some sense into him."Jasper, have you looked in the mirror lately?" Her question made him furrow his brows in confusion."I'm a busy man, I don't have such luxuries.""If you'd take at least two minutes every morning to look at yourself, you'll see that you've totally changed."Jasper chuckled lightly. "You've been away for just—""I'm not talking about that." Elena slammed her palm down on the desk, which made Jasper frown."What is wrong with you?" Her voice was low, but sharp. "Why can't you leave Freya alone?""Is that why you've come here?" Jasper leaned back in his seat, a cold look in his eyes that sent chills down

Chapter 20 Invasion of privacy

Freya's POVMy day was almost ruined today, if not for Orson. I took a seat in front of my dresser, gently putting the charcoal mask to my face. I picked up the eye mask, ready to put it on when I heard a knock on the door.Who was it again? I exhaled deeply. The first person that crossed my mind was Jasper. I abruptly got up, walked out of the bedroom to the front door. I had a stiletto in my hand, which I was going to use since he was hell-bent on making my life a nightmare."Jas—" I opened the door. It wasn't Jasper which made me relieved a bit. It was the Beta from last time who'd followed me home. My grip tightened around the heel."Hello, Miss Freya," he greeted, waving his hand at me."Why have you come here?" My tone wasn't welcoming at all. Why should it be when people I didn't like kept showing up at my doorstep everyday."Freya." A feminine voice called out. She stepped out from behind him with a smile on her face. The heel fell out of my hand."Elena!" I screamed out in exc
