Charlene heard Sally yelling her name as soon as she got to Jasmine's school. "Ms. Ross!" Sally ran over to Charlene and spoke in a happy, bright voice. "Ms. Ross, my mom made some cookies for you last night, but you weren't home, so I had to take them back," Sally said with a hint of disappointment. Jasmine, who didn't know Charlene had moved out, interrupted her as she was ready to say anything, scoffing, "That's not true. Last night, my mother was undoubtedly at home. Confused, Sally rubbed her head. "Really? However, why then? Ms. Payne, Jasmine's teacher, called out to her before Charlene could explain. "Charlene acknowledged Ms. Ross. "Ms. Payne needed to speak with Charlene, so she invited Jasmine and Sally to come inside. The grownups were left to converse as the girls ran away.
