~Lindsey~ I wake up the next morning, slightly hungover but not miserable. Nothing a cup of coffee and a good breakfast won’t cure. The ball is tonight, so I’ll need to approve and check all the last minute tasks. I stumble to the gamma kitchen, a bit sore from my escapade with Brady after the party. “Good morning sunshine. Ready to take on the day?” Grant grins over his cup of coffee. He barely drank last night. My friends, unfortunately, forgot I don’t have a wolf yet to help me digest alcohol. Grant tried to warn me, but I was determined to keep up with the rest. “I’m actually ok. Just a little headache. I’m going to get some coffee and eat then I’m heading down. I’m assuming you’re my right hand guy today?” He nods to confirm. “Great. I’ll be ready to go in thirty minutes.” “But you are still in pajamas.” He observes over his cup. “Don’t you need to get all fancy and stuff? How are you going to do all that in thirty minutes?” I grin. “I have my ways. Mindlink the

~Brady~Images of that abandoned warehouse flash in my mind. Starving children, abused and beaten women, corpses decaying. The stench of human waste, blood, and rotting flesh was overwhelming. I’ve never smelt something so horrid in all my life. And the looks on the faces of those who had clearly been hurt the most…The perpetrators, somehow, knew we were coming, but some of the warriors from the kingdom that had come with Lucy were faster than the rogues. They caught them and killed them. Only a few who proved willing to talk were kept alive to ensure the trafficking problem was brought to a halt. They’ll find out the remaining culprits and punish them extensively. If there’s one thing the king hates, it’s a rat. I take a deep breath in and slowly release it, gradually opening my eyes as I do. Lindsey is staring at me, concerned but patient. She wants to know more, but I just don’t know if I want her to bear yet another burden. “Who is his mate Brady?” She strokes my arm, trying to

~Lindsey~ We walk downstairs and enter the ballroom. Alpha Cam gives a long speech thanking everyone for coming, saying what an honor it is to be distinguished by the king, thanking Lucy for being here, and countless other things. Unfortunately I only pick up bits and pieces because my mind is on Brady. His face is hidden behind a courteous smile, but I know him too well. His appearance looks forced; only those who know him best would pick up on the intricate changes in his demeanor. He’s not joking around or teasing someone. The muscle in his jaw is tense despite his desperate attempt to hide it. His posture and the way he carries himself are ever so slightly altered; he’s standing taller but not in a good way. More like he’s making a conscious effort to look like he’s ok. Despite my desire to dance the night away, my only thought is how to get him out of here as quickly as possible. The terrors that he has seen are still fresh on his mind. He needs rest, time to heal his trou

~Lindsey~I wake up, rubbing my eyes. I jump when I see unfamiliar surroundings before I remember that I stayed with Brady last night. I look at him while he sleeps. He looks so peaceful, so handsome. Whatever Dad gave him worked. He slowly became more and more like himself as the night drew on. About half an hour after we left the ballroom, he was asleep, deep within whatever dreams awaited him. I slowly climb out of bed and make my way to his bathroom. I see the omegas brought toiletries and a bath set for me. I hang the towel outside of the shower and begin to wash off. Maci and Cam were surprisingly fine with the idea of me staying the night with Brady. Whether it was because they knew he was suffering or that it simply didn’t bother them was beyond me. Maci was more excited at the thought of having someone to gossip with this morning. I dry my hair with a towel and head back into Brady’s room to grab my clothes. After I pull them on, I walk back over and gently twirl one of h

~Brady~ A few hours later, the door to my office is yanked open. Colton stumbles in behind Deanna, who looks as though she’s about to explode. I place my pen down, folding my hands in anticipation. “Everything go well?” “Does it look like everything went well?” Deanna fumes. She’s rarely angry, especially to this extreme. Needless to say, my curiosity is peaked. “Your mate was belittled and disrespected time and time again. Not once did she stand up for herself. All because the culprit was his mate!” She points an accusing finger at Colton, her eyes never leaving mine. Knight growls in the back of my mind. He’s still exhausted, but Lindsey is ours to protect. He’d fight death itself for Lindsey if needed. I take a deep breath and try to settle down. “What happened?” Deanna takes a deep breath herself before beginning her recollection. “So we got to the safe house. Lindsey thought they might want some privacy, so she offered to have them stay in the hotel. She was worried
