The first move.

AlanThe moment those words left Raymond’s mouth, something inside me shifted in a way I could neither explain nor undo, and it wasn’t the kind of reaction that came with shouting or reckless movement, but rather the quiet, controlled kind that settles deep within a man and hardens him from the inside out.I lowered my gaze to Natasha, who was still seated on my lap, her fingers clutching tightly at my shirt as though letting go would send her spiraling into something she couldn’t recover from, and the sight of her like that, fragile, shaken, and still haunted by whatever had happened out there, made something cold and decisive settle firmly in my chest. My hand came up to her face, brushing away the last traces of tears that clung stubbornly to her skin, and even though my touch was gentle, there was nothing gentle about the thoughts running through my mind at that moment.“Raymond,” I called, my voice calm but carrying a weight that made him stop just as he reached the door, “call f

The silence.

NatashaThe moment the door closed behind Alan, the silence he left behind felt louder than anything else in the room, pressing in on me in a way that made it hard to sit still, let alone think clearly, and even though I tried to convince myself that everything was fine, that he knew what he was doing and that I should simply trust him the way he had asked me to, there was a part of me that refused to settle, a part that kept replaying his words over and over again until they began to feel heavier than they already were.I remained standing where he had left me for a while, my fingers still curled slightly as though I could somehow hold onto him even after he was gone, and it wasn’t until a soft knock came at the door that I finally forced myself to move, drawing in a slow breath that did little to steady the unease building inside me.“Come in,” I called, my voice quieter than I intended, but steady enough to not betray just how much my thoughts were spiraling. The door opened to rev

No mercy.

AlanThe alarm was still blaring when I stepped out of the boardroom, its sharp, unrelenting sound echoing through the halls in a way that made it impossible for anyone to ignore the urgency of the situation, and as I walked forward, taking in the hurried movements of guards and the tension that clung to every corner of the corridor, I could already feel it settling deep within me that whatever had just unfolded outside was no minor disturbance, but something far more deliberate, something that tied directly into everything we had just discussed moments ago.“Alpha!”The call came from ahead of me, and when I turned, I saw one of the guards approaching at a hurried pace, his face drawn tight with the kind of strain that told me he wasn’t just delivering routine information, but something far more serious, and the moment he stopped in front of me, I didn’t bother with pleasantries or patience.“What is it?” I asked, my voice steady but firm enough to make it clear that I expected nothi

His last moment.

NatashaWhatever had happened leading to this very moment, I knew that Alan would never let it go. If Matt was behind this, he would die by Alan’s hands and he wouldn’t care if he was his Nephew or not. For several hours, the gun battle raged on and with each minute that passed, I was getting more and more scared because I had no idea what this could mean for not only me but for the entire pack who was made to suffer the consequences of my involvement with Matt.“Are you okay?” Sophia asked. At that moment, I was more than happy she was here. If she wasn’t, I had no idea how I was going to run through everything that had happened. She had been my anchor, my strength especially on issues like this when I thought I was going to lose my mind.“I’m not okay. I hate that I've dragged all of you here, making it seem like you are a part of this. Please forgive me,” I said. She took my hands in her’s, giving it a gentle squeeze as she silently assured me that everything would be fine. I didn’

This isn't Natasha.

MattStanding in the middle of that council room felt like being placed right at the center of a storm that I couldn’t step out of, no matter how much I wanted to, and yet I refused to show even the smallest crack in my composure because the moment I did, they would take it as proof that I was already guilty. My shoulders stayed straight, my chin lifted just enough to show defiance, and my hands remained calmly clasped behind me even though the tension in my body was so tight it almost hurt.“I did not betray anyone,” I said, making sure my voice carried clearly across the room, steady and firm, without even the slightest shake. “And I plead not guilty to every accusation placed against me.”The silence that followed wasn’t the kind that gave comfort; it was the kind that judged, heavy and thick, filled with doubt and quiet whispers that didn’t need to be spoken aloud for me to hear them. Their eyes were on me, every single one of them, and not one of those looks held belief. Not one

Not done yet.

Chapter 36NatashaI found Alan in his office, standing by the window with his back to me, his shoulders tense in a way that told me he had already made up his mind about something, and that alone made my chest tighten because whenever he got like this, it meant he wasn’t going to listen to anyone, not even me.“Alan,” I called softly, closing the door behind me.He didn’t turn right away, and for a moment, I just stood there watching him, wondering how things had gotten this bad that Matt’s name alone could put this much weight on all of us.“You should be resting,” he finally said, his voice low, controlled, but I could hear the anger sitting beneath it.“I’m not tired,” I replied, taking a few steps closer. “And even if I was, I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing what’s going on.”That made him turn, his eyes landing on mine, sharp and burning with something I knew too well…rage.“He made his move,” Alan said. “And now he’s going to regret it.”I shook my head slowly, my hands foldi

No empty threats.

NatashaI hadn’t gone far from Alan’s office before I stopped in the middle of the hallway, pressing my hand against the wall like I needed something solid to hold on to, because the weight of everything we had just said was still sitting heavily on my chest, and no matter how much I tried to shake it off, it refused to leave me alone.Alan wasn’t going to listen, that much was clear. And Matt… Matt wasn’t the kind of man who let things go.I closed my eyes for a second, letting out a slow breath, trying to calm myself down before I completely lost it, because the last thing I needed was for anyone to see me falling apart when I was supposed to be holding it together.“You’re fine,” I muttered under my breath. “You’re fine.”But even as I said it, I didn’t believe it.I pushed myself off the wall and started walking again, my steps slow at first, then a little faster, like moving would somehow clear my head, but it didn’t, because every thought kept circling back to the same thing.Ma

Hide behind me.

AlanThe moment my office door pushed open without a knock, I looked up sharply, already prepared to snap at whoever thought they could walk in on me like that, but the words died before they even formed because Natasha was standing there, and one look at her face told me something was very wrong. She wasn’t just upset. She looked shaken in a way that made every part of me go on alert at once.“Natasha,” I said, rising from my chair so fast it scraped against the floor. “What happened?”She opened her mouth, but for a second, no words came out. Her chest was rising too fast, her fingers were still wrapped tightly around her phone, and I could see it clearly now, she was trying hard not to let the fear take over.I crossed the room in two quick steps and held her by the arms. “Talk to me.”“He called me,” she said, and even though her voice was low, I heard every bit of the fear hiding under it.Something cold settled in my chest.“Who?”Her eyes lifted to mine. “Matt.”My jaw tightene

Don't move!

NatashaThe sound didn’t just reach me, it crashed into me, loud and sharp and impossible to ignore, and for a moment, it felt like the entire world had tilted on its axis because gunfire was not something that belonged here, not in this place that had started to feel safe in a way I hadn’t allowed myself to feel in a long time.My fingers tightened around Alan’s hand without me even realizing it, my heart pounding so hard against my chest that I could hear it in my ears, each beat louder than the last, almost drowning out everything else.“Alan…” I said, but my voice came out softer than I expected, like it had been caught somewhere between fear and disbelief. He didn’t answer me immediately, not because he didn’t hear me, but because he was already moving, already shifting into something else entirely, something sharper, more focused, more dangerous, and in the next second, his hand slipped from mine as he headed straight for the door like there was no other choice.“Stay here,” he

It can't be!

NatashaI did not move, I could not because if I did, I might die.The gun pressed harder against my back, cold and steady, and for one horrible second, it felt like every sound around me had gone far away even though the gunfire was still there, the shouting was still there, and men were still running across the grounds like the whole place was breaking apart right in front of me.My breath came out shallow, uneven, and I kept my hands exactly where they were because I knew one wrong move could end everything before I even had the chance to think.“Take one more step and I put a bullet through her,” the man behind me said.Alan stopped at once. The look on his face changed so fast that it made fear crawl deeper into my chest, because a second ago he had been fighting, commanding, moving like a man who knew exactly what to do, but now he had gone still in a way that felt much more dangerous.“Let her go,” he said, and his voice was low, hard, and deadly calm. The man behind me gave a
