"Put him on the bed." Hope's voice shook with fear as she lowered her bag filled with instruments for healing. Caleb carefully lowered an unconscious Dylan from his shoulders to the bed, then stepped back as Hope moved towards him. "Is he going to be okay?" Scarlett asked worriedly. She hung by the side of the bed, one hand gently resting on Dylan's foot. Her eyes were reddened from crying. Hope didn't answer immediately. She leaned over the bed and pulled down Dylan's lower eyelid. The whites of his eyes were filled with blood, and his pupils had gone from light gold to black. She checked his other eye, and noticing the same thing, she pulled back and looked at Caleb. Caleb understood the look she gave him, even though she didn't say a word. This was the second time something like this was happening. The first time it happened, Dylan almost died. They weren't sure if he would survive it now. Scarlett noticed the look between them and frowned. "What is it? Why do you look that

It took hours to revive Scarlett. She had lost a lot of blood, and she was weak from the fight with Kingston. In the corner of the room, Dylan paced restlessly. He blamed himself for everything. For leaving her back at the pack, for failing to protect her, and for almost killing her. All attempts from Caleb and Hope to calm him were futile. The only thing he wanted was to see her awake. The soft sound of knocking pulled him out of his thoughts. He stopped and turned, frowning at Caleb who just stepped into the room. "Alpha," Caleb called out softly and stood beside him. "Everything is back to normal. The bodies have been buried, and the rogues have been set ablaze.""How many did we lose?" Dylan asked quietly. "How many guards?""About a hundred." Caleb answered. "We also lost two families during the fight. Everyone else is safe."Dylan remained silent for a moment, mulling over Caleb's report. Then he exhaled and finally looked at him. "A memorial will be conducted for the peopl

There were a lot of things Dylan could say no to. But when it came to a request like that from Scarlett, he was helpless. His body responded before his mind registered it. His hands slid up her thighs, fingers stroking over her skin until they curled around her hips. He gently pulled her forward, pressing her flush against the hard bulge straining against his pants. "My love," he rasped, Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. "I want nothing more than to make love to you. But... you're still weak..."Scarlett was shaking her head already. "I'm not. I want you, Dylan." She rocked slowly against his erection, and a strangled curse slipped out his mouth. "Wait, just... fuck! I can't think when you do that." His grip around her hips tightened, stopping her sinful movements. "I want you too, baby. So bad it fucking hurts. But I must warn you, I won't be gentle. I'm fighting to dominate my wolf right now so I won't hurt you...""You won't hurt me." Scarlett whispered. She leaned to the s

Scarlett instinctively pulled away from him, her brows knitting into a frown. "What? W–what do you mean?"She moved away from the bed, taking the sheets with her. Dylan didn't stop her. He swung his legs off the bed, slid into his trousers and walked round to meet her. But he didn't touch her. "I want to crown you my Luna." He repeated. "I heard you the first time." Scarlett said. "I'm just trying to understand why you would ruin such a nice moment between us."It was Dylan's turn to frown. "Ruin the moment? What are you saying?""Have you forgotten what you told me? That a human can't be your Luna? That your people would never accept me? Hell, you even said I'd never survive the Luna challenge.""That was then!" Dylan replied, his voice raising involuntarily. "Back then, when I thought I hated you. When I thought our marriage was a mistake. Then I fell in love with you...""It doesn't change a thing.""It changes a lot of things." He snapped. Closing the space between them, he mo

Hope's words stayed with Scarlett all day. She couldn't stop thinking of how sad it must have been for her to reject her fated mate. Though she had no idea how the mate bond worked, she knew it had to be something like the mad love you had for someone. Like the love she had for Dylan. Even right now, despite their argument, she couldn't think of a life without him. But was she ready to take that step and bear his kids? Was she ready to become a werewolf? The truth was, she wasn't, even though she loved Dylan wholeheartedly. After breakfast that morning, she went in search of him. Her first stop was the study. He wasn't there. Next she checked the library, the courtyard and the drawing room where he sometimes stayed to be alone. She didn't find him. Bunching her gown in her hands, she hurried out of the mansion and headed for Jordan and Caleb's home. The attack had changed the pack. Most cottages were ruined, but the shifters were already working to restore it to the way it on
