ELARAThe plan’s never going to work, I thought to myself as I tried to maintain eye contact with the man who just threatened to kill me.Exhaling a sharp breath, I proceeded to look away to mutter under my breath, “What have I gotten myself into?”“Elara.”I didn’t respond to him. But after a moment, I turned back to him just to ask, “But the ten million part… it’s true?”Alexander nodded solemnly. Well, damn.I watched the smoke escape his lips and my mouth watered just like the night in his car. He leaned off the chair, advancing closer to me. He was so close, I forgot how to breathe for a second. And then his breath fanned my face, like he was lending me his own oxygen—even if it reeked of intoxicating smoke. He took the cigar out of his mouth, then calmly placed it between my lips. Even David didn’t know about my little smoking addiction. I cleaned up well whenever I was around him, afraid to get judged. With my fiancé’s father, however, it was easy. There was absolutely no judge

ELARA“Waited for my wedding for almost two years, and it’s here now. It’s here, and I’m not marrying my fiancé.” I turned to Vivian with tears in my eyes. She grabbed my arms, her eyes filling with tears too. “I’m marrying his dad, Viv…”“Elara…” she choked.“I thought I’d finally be happy getting married, I thought this is just what I needed. I thought… oh my God, how did my life get to this.” I sobbed and she finally wrapped her arms around me. The dam broke out now, I cried until I couldn’t breathe. Until I was sure that the makeup artist would have break her back trying to fix this.Vivian cried with me, rubbing my back as she did. After what seemed like hours, we finally pulled apart and Vivian pushed me towards the makeup seat.“You’ve ruined your makeup, you sad bitch.” She scolded me, even if hers was ruined too. I laughed sadly, climbing on the seat while the makeup artist got to work immediately.Everybody in this room, everyone in charge of my styling were professionals Ale

ALEXANDER“You live alone.” She stated instead of asking. I nodded once, watching her stare at me wide-eyed, obviously impressed. She looked around again, then back at me. “Are you… you’re definitely in the mafia, aren’t you?”I laughed, striding towards her. “The mafia? Why? And what do you think?”“I think you are.” Her eyes did a sweep of the living room again. When she looked back at me again, she spoke with an accusatory tone, “I mean, I knew you were dangerous, I didn’t know you were a hardened criminal.” She stood her ground, not moving an inch backward even when I came to stand in front of her.Once again, my cock hardened at the sight of her bravery and composure. I was so used to people—women, especially—cowering when I came close, refusing to look me in the eye.I was learning that she was different. Elara stared at me defiantly, like she had all the right in the world to do so. Like she was my equal. And maybe she was. She was wearing my ring, after all.“A hardened crimina

ELARA“It’s just your first day in there. Are you sure you want to start now? What if he catches you? That man is a freaking Don, Elara!” Viv yelled over the phone, and I stopped cold in my tracks.“Don’t!” I slapped my palm over the speaker and quickly turned my head towards the hallway, my eyes darting from one end to the other. The house was dead silent, and every word I spoke echoed quietly across the house. I stood still for a few seconds, listening for approaching footsteps. When nothing came, I slowly lowered my hand and brought the phone back to my ear.I was too busy looking around the office. The first thing I noticed was how cold it was in there. Alexander must have had the air conditioning running for hours because I could already feel my skin prickling. The room smelled like his cologne, leather, and something else I couldn’t quite place. It was the kind of smell that always seemed to follow him around, even when he wasn’t there.I stepped inside and reached for the light

ALEXANDERWhen Mike called and told me she was in my office, I hoped for it to be a lie. I left the company with disappointment making me sick to the stomach… disappointment that doubled when I laid my eyes on her, lying face flat in front of my makeshift safe. Not that I trusted Elara, I was no boy. I knew she was here on a mission. I just was disappointed at her method of execution. I had more faith in her…“Get up.” I ordered, and she visibly stiffened, but didn’t do what I said. I stepped into the room and clicked the door shut, and the sharp sound of it caused her to jerk up and sit on the floor, backing away from me.She took down the wrap around her head and those eyes of hers held mine with an innocence I knew was faker than the amount of my registered companies in the state. Her hair was scattered across her face, and her lips were pouted at me.“Elara.” I called out.“Yes?” She whispered.“Get up.” I repeated. She swallowed, then smiled widely.“I… I was just looking for you
