ODESSA POV:Nobody moves.The entire pack is frozen in place, staring at Kade like he's a ghost come to life. Which he basically is because we all watched him fall off that cliff, we all felt the pack bonds shatter when he died, we literally buried a stone with his name on it.But he's standing right here, staring right at me like I was the only thing he could see in the crowd. DAMON POV:"Marcus, take Odessa back to the pack house and make sure she stays there.""But alpha…""That's an order." I keep my voice firm even though everything inside me is stormy with anxiety..Marcus nods and moves toward Odessa but she's just standing there staring at nothing, her hand pressed to her chest like she's in pain. ODESSA POV:I'm pacing back and forth in my bedroom like a caged animal and I can't stop.Two mate bonds. ODESSA POV:My head is pounding when I wake up.I try to move but my hands are tied behind my back with something that burns my skin, it’s silver rope, and so I can't shift, or do anything except sit here in this dark, musty shack that smells like death and rotting wood."Ah, you're awake."I look up and see him. KADE POV:She's bleeding out on the ground and all I can think about is how I wasn't fast enough."We need to move her. Now." Damon is already scooping Odessa into his arms, cradling her against his chest like she's made of glass.I want to rip her away from him. Every instinct is screaming at me to take my mate from my brother's hands. ODESSA POV:Everything hurts. It’s the first thing I notice when I start waking up. My arm feels like it's on fire and my head is pounding and my mouth tastes like I've been chewing on dirt.I try to open my eyes but the light is too bright so I squeeze them shut again."Easy there, " a gentle voice says.I recognize the healer's voice and slowly force my eyes open. ODESSA POV:The words hang in the air between us and I watch Damon's eyes darken with desire."Odessa," he says, his voice rough. "Are you sure?""No." I laugh a little hysterically. DAMON POV:I'm hitting the punching bag so hard my knuckles are bleeding but I don't care.Five days back from the dead and I still feel weak as hell. Whatever the Silverfangs did to me drained something fundamental from my body and it's taking forever to get my strength back. The healer says I'm recovering faster than expected but it doesn't feel fast enough.I need to be strong.
