Angelica I bite down on my index finger, staring at the back of Gypsy’s head. He’s looking outside the window, with his left arm casually sitting on his lap.Last week spoiled me. There was no Gypsy, or restrictions from any angle. I’d gone out, done what I needed, and returned. Now reality sits ahead of me with a permanent frown.“…nora?” Whipping my head to the rear-view mirror, I find Ky’s eyes on me. He’s the one who called me. He blinks and darts his eyes towards Gypsy, before returning his gaze to me. I blink twice, wondering what he could possibly mean by that. He also blinks twice, as if sensing my confusion, then clears his throat. “Where are you going, Signora?” It’s the way he arches his brows that lets me understand what the eye movement was all about. It seems he knows I want to go somewhere and I don’t want Gypsy coming along.Biting my lower lip, I quickly come to terms with the fact that there’s nothing I can do about Gypsy. He will come along no matter what.Unl

Angelica “W-we’re just friends and we’ve never even met in person,” I ramble in an attempt to diffuse the tension, but instead end up adding to it. Not even my awkward laugh right after helped.“I just think it’s nice he’s doing that for her… or do you pay him?” Bella asks with a raised brow.I shake my head.“See? He’s nice.” “What’s your major?” Marina interrupts Bella, who smirks as she looks away. “Uh…Business. N-” I stop and clear my throat. “Father wanted both his girls to be in business, and Law for Junior.” “But is it something you enjoy?” She asks, her brows furrowed in concern.“At first I didn’t, but I do now. I find it…exciting.” Bella sucks in a breath so sharp it startles me. Her eyes are wide and on me.“Don’t tell me you’re a nerd?” she asks with a laugh, and just like that, the tension in the kitchen dissolves as both Marina and I join in.I turn off my laptop and pack my things, while Bella grabs two glasses and a bottle of wine, pours them at the counter, and h

Angelica “What are you doing in here?” At the sound of the voice, my heart skips a beat. And with my hand over it, I turn slowly to meet Leo’s arched brow. Is it a thing in the D’amato family to move without making a sound?“I-I um…. Nothing actually, I was only looking around with Bella.”His gaze moves across the room, looking for Bella. I quickly shake my head.“She stepped out to take a call.” “That’s alright then. But you know,” he says, strolling in, “no one is allowed in here. Don’s orders.” In all honesty, I had a feeling this would be the case given how well-kept it is, as though all the little girl's memories were collected and stored in the room so it’s never-ending.“I didn’t know. I’m sorry.” “No need to apologize,” he says, but another apology is already on its way out of my lips as I exit the room.“Is this still part of your getting to know your husband series?” He asks the second I cross the door. My gaze meets his for a split second, but I quickly look away.“W

(DOUBLE POV MOMENT)Angelica Every time I think I have something, it always turns out that I don’t.I thought I was finally getting somewhere with Marciano and Vittoria, but I only ended up more confused than ever. Though, I should’ve known when Leo told me they were a private couple. I can’t believe they were so private not even Marina knows a thing about them, and she knows everything about everyone. Maybe I need to let this go…But how can I, when my livelihood is attached to the man in question?Biting the insides of my lips in silence, I follow behind Marina who is on a call, while my mind is reeling from all the revelations I just received.Staring at her back, Marina looks strong, she doesn’t seem like someone who ever had to bend her will for anyone, and I can only conclude that that experience has something to do with it. Marina suddenly stops and turns to face me. I almost walk into her but I catch myself, watching her with curious eyes. She peels her phone from her ear

Angelica I bend over the sink in the guest bathroom, heaving loudly, one hand gripping the marble top, the other clutching my stomach tight.Marciano didn’t believe me.That piercing look he gave me. Yeah, I’ve just made him suspicious of me and my best option was to run.“Oh, God.” I turn on the faucet, letting it wash away my gore, before rinsing my mouth. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror in front of me. I’m scared of the person I’ll see when I do.Why did I even think taking Nicolas’s call in the house was a good idea? I could’ve gone outside, or even gone to the car. “Why, stupid? Why?” I seethe, wiping my mouth with more force than usual. I rinse my hands a final time and turn off the faucet, allowing the silence to permeate around the room. Then I look up.There are unshed tears in my eyes, my lips are trembling, and my makeup around the area is smudged. I don’t have any makeup with me, and I can’t possibly go out looking like this. Everyone will know something’s up w

Angelica The second I open my eyes I know I’m somewhere I’m not supposed to be. Firstly because it’s noisy; from the hammering to the voices of people doing this and that. Blinking a few times, I take in my surroundings. The room looks warm and clean. There are no pictures in the room, just a few clothes lying here and there. I instantly recognize the room. It’s the second room I checked out yesterday. I throw my legs off the bed, inspecting the room to confirm. The robe I saw yesterday is still lying on the cushion at the edge of the bed. In fact, standing at this angle, I recognize it better. But, why am I here?A box of memories from last night opens up in my mind like it’s been waiting for me to wake up and ask that question.Marciano brought me up here. I’m not quite sure what the conversation was about, but he looked serious, sitting upright on the edge of the bed. Then the memory shifts and I recall seeing that red bracelet on his wrist which I reach out to touch.I immedi

Angelica Marciano marches towards me with strong strides, and just when I think he’s going to do something to me, he walks past.“I’m not,” I mutter under my breath, but I doubt he heard me, because he doesn’t acknowledge that I’ve spoken. Dropping the shot glass on the bar, I follow after him. At first, he doesn’t mind, but when he notices I’ve followed him into his room, he stops and turns to me, a brow raised.“What is the matter?” He asks, voice hard, just like the look on his face.“I’d like to talk to y-you.” I haven’t felt the effect of the shots yet, except for the disgusting taste they left behind in my mouth and throat. “Go to your room, Angelica. I have a flight to catch in the morning.”“A-a flight?” I ask, surprised.“Yes, Angelica. A flight,” he responds in a clipped tone, like he’s talking to a child he’s stressed out by. “Go back to your room,” he says and places his hands on my shoulder, pushing me out slowly until I’m on the other side of the doorframe. Then, he p

Marciano I don't particularly like taking trips, especially ones that have to do with sourcing weapons. And I shouldn't, given what happened at the port the last time, but there was no one else available to take the journey. No one else I completely trust to do it.If Sergio were healthy, he would've been the best person for the job, he would probably love the change in scenery and choose to stay a few more days to fuck around, but not me. Four days is too much time away from my territory, so having finished what I came here for, I'm on my way to the airport. My phone rings and I pick it up, squinting at the unsaved number before I answer it."Don. It's Alessandro," I remain quiet, trying to recognize the voice. "Leo asked me to give a report on the man you kept in my custody." The recognition is instant. Alessandro is my younger cousin who I put in charge of the man who owns the car that Vittoria and Ana died in."So tell me.""I think he's sick, Don. Mentally. I'm not sure we can

Marciano My blood is boiling, and the more I think about it, the less sense it makes.Angelica has always been portrayed as Nicolas’s favorite child. The beautiful daughter. The one he supposedly adored. He always joked about trying to cover her beauty, which is why he never let her attend most events with the family. He went as far as saying she prefers not to.Now I know that the reason was to cover up the fact that she has a fear of crowds. But to find out that instead of being loved, she was maltreated, physically abused multiple times. It's sick.I reach into my pocket for my phone, only to see it's dead. "Fuck!" I mutter, and just as I make a move to leave, I hear the front door slam."I don't think we should leave her like this." "What else can we do? Leo says Don is probably home. He's the only one who'll know what to do.""Try calling him again, that's what. She doesn't look like she's breathing."That instantly grabs my attention. I push open the door, practically jumpi

Angelica The light is still there; bright and blinding. For a moment I think I’m still dreaming until shapes begin to emerge from the white. Ceiling lights. White walls. Three familiar faces and one unfamiliar one staring down at me, all carrying the same expression; relief. An older bald, black man in the long white coat, rushes to me, while my eyes wander around the room, looking at the faces as they’re looking at me, all huddled around the bed, waiting expectantly. “How are you feeling?” The man asks as he pulls out a short pen from his breast pocket, then pushes the butt. A bright light comes on. I nod in response to his question, but I’m not sure how I’m feeling. It feels like I’ve been lost in space and only just returned. “You have any words for how you’re feeling?” The man asks, bringing his hand to my face. He presses his thumb on my eyelid and pulls upward, pointing the light in my eye. The brightness has me taken aback, and I blink away, closing my eyes and forgetti
