LUCAS POV The rain on the phone line sounded like electricity, a wet, frantic scratching that irritated my ear."Lucas? Lucas, please tell me you're there," Victoria's voice broke through the receiver, choked with a pathetic, shivering sob.I didn't open my mouth. I kept the phone pressed to my ear as my boots ground against the ground.Every step upward felt like torture. I hated her. I hated the sound of her breath, the way her voice sounded If she were bleeding out in front of me right now, I would have used the blood to ink my hate."Lucas!" she screamed into the static, the sound of a distant truck stop horn blaring behind her. "I met with Elena-she knows about the baby! -, Lucas there's so much I need to tell you , to explain, but I need you to call her....they're here-"I hit the button and ended the call.I didn't lower the phone immediately. I just let my thumb press into the glass until the screen cracked under the force. Then I tossed it over the edge into the black vo

"Maddie," I whispered, my lips brushing the frozen skin of her temple. "Look at me. Please.""The light went into the stone," she said. Her voice didn't have a rise or a fall. It was a flat, chilling, that didn't even sound like her. "Are we under the deep water now?""No," I choked out, forcing myself up onto my feet. A brutal wave of dizziness hit me, as i carried her past the sons, there was complete silence their eyes communicating their anger, ("The sons believe they owe Alexander their lives, thats why they swore loyalty to him, bound by the sacred commitment to the ring he wears, they are nothing without him-,)Rosettes voice floated into my head.I couldn't understand their unflinching loyalty once, but her explanation made it clear.By the time I reached the iron gates of calvary, my breath was coming in short, wet gasps. I dragged in sharp air as i caught sight of the unprotected gates, "Thank God..." i muttered under my breaths, quickening my pace,"leaving so fast?" I

I sat in the back of the sedan, my hands shaking so violently I had to press them hard against my stomach just to keep from hyperventilating. My hot breath fogged up the window, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from the grand, dark silhouette of the house. It looked less like a home and more like a fortress built to keep the world out-or to keep secrets locked tightly inside. The door to the sedan flew open with a violent jerk. Cold rain sprayed across my face, soaking my collar as a large, silent man in a tailored dark suit grabbed my arm, his grip like a steel vice. "Get out," he commanded, his voice completely devoid of empathy. I stumbled out into the storm, my sneakers sinking instantly into the thick mud. I tried to pull away, to scream, but he marched me forward without a single word, dragging me up the grand stone steps and straight through the massive front doors of the estate. The warmth of the grand foyer hit me like a physical wall, but it brought absolutely no com

Lucas pov Christopher didn't move an inch. He just stood there his dark eyes measuring my raw, suicidal note,Then he shifted his eyes, lifting them up to face my mother, Elena, ...where had she sprouted from,Just then, the bitter and vile thoughts of Victoria hammered against my chest, the venom spreading even wider. "Christopher," she warned, her voice cutting sharply through the howling wind. "We do not have the time for a prolonged standoff with our own blood, its hopeless-,Christopher's heavy gaze slowly drifted from my face down to Maddie, who was still staring vacantly up at the sky. Then, his eyes dropped to my bleeding neck as my breath grew shorter, He gritted his teeth tight till a heavy, dark resignation finally settled over his weathered features. Then he looked up to his brother, who had a smirk on his lips now,He tilted his head slightly, "You know me brother. I don't do charity." Alexander said, his eyes haughty with mischief. "And what is that you want for t

VIctoria pov He paused, but only long enough to allow me catch the steam off his shoulders, My heart thundered against my chest, could he at hear me out? Then he vanished into one of the many corridors. I took in a deep breath and pushed myself to move past the paralysis i was caught up in, from seeing lucas walk away from me. And then came the whispers. Lucas's fathers wing wasn't empty; it was alive with the quiet, murmurs of the staff moving like shadows through the corridors. Every time a maid passed my door, I could hear the faint, muffled rustle of gossip. According to Christopher, i wasn't allowed to step foot out of Lucas's wing, not until the whole marriage deal was done. So as i stepped foot out of the corridor, there were two body guards standing at ease at the door waiting to convey me to his wing. but to be honest, Christophers wing was quite lighter than whatever torment was waiting for me with Lucas. I quietly followed them, and they shut the do
