Darius's POV The laboratory was a cathedral of steel and glass. I stood at the center of it, surrounded by screens that glowed with data I could not read, machines that hummed with power I could not feel. The scientists moved around me like ants, white coats, masked faces, gloved hands. They spoke in low voices, pointing at graphs, shaking their heads. "We have hit a wall," Director Valerius said.
