[Gwyneth]  Verge City… Alpha Lucian and I held hands as we watched the first light of dawn slowly spread across the rooftop of his mansion. After our encounter with Virel, we had escaped the well together. Since then, neither of us had said much. Alpha Lucian stayed beside me, giving me the space I needed to process everything that had happened. For once, I didn’t need words. I could feel him through our mate bond; the warmth of his presence, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, and the familiar scent that had always made my wolf feel safe. One by one, the pieces of my memories began to fall into place. One by one, the pain I had buried came rushing back. Yet, despite everything I remembered, one truth remained unchanged. I loved Alpha Lucian... My mother, now Lora, seemed to have a clear purpose in mind. After years of arguing with the king, I could understand why she was exhausted. Amanda immediately went to Lynn’s residence in Verge City. Fortunately, she was still in the city and hadn’t yet returned to Lycan Academy to continue her healing training with Lora. I had been unusually quiet, my mind restless with questions I couldn’t silence. I didn’t know how deep Lucian’s connection with Vada had become. The thought alone was enough to hurt, but I forced myself to remain open-minded. I needed to hear the truth before letting my emotions take over. Amanda slowly withdrew her hand from Vada’s abdomen and let out a long breath. Vada was lying on the bed, her face pale and tense. “Gwen was right. Gwen didn’t stay behind either. She came with me, while the School of Pups was temporarily left under Alpha Lucian’s care, along with a few teachers we trusted. Fortunately, transportation had greatly improved since Kaelen and I got married. What used to take hours now took only a fraction of the time, making the journey to Thornfell Territory much easier. The temperature inside the vehicle steadily dropped as we approached the territory. Even with the windows closed, the bitter frost outside seemed to seep through the glass. As we neared the border, I reached out with my wolf spirit and let my presence as Luna spread through the surrounding territory. The warriors stationed at the border immediately sensed me. Our vehicle was allowed through without question. Soon, we arrived at the Cross Residence. I stepped out without letting a single emotion show on my face, even though my chest was pounding painfully.

Gwen and Amanda hurried ahead of me as my anger continued to build. Now I understand why I couldn’t feel Kaelen. He was probably being held in a room completely sealed off from the outside world. No wonder the head council was so confident that we would never find him. The Beta and two warriors followed closely behind us. I kept pace with Gwen as she rushed up the stairs. We reached a section of the wall that looked completely ordinary, but as I drew closer, I noticed a faint seam running through it; a hidden door! This must have been where they took shelter whenever the territory came under attack. Then I remembered what the warrior had told me. Kaelen wouldn’t be allowed to leave until they were certain the chosen consort had conceived a pup. “Luna, we searched every room on this floor.
