CAINI sit gripped by the steering wheel of my SUV, idling outside the estate I call a cage. It’s a three-story fortress of grey stone and iron—Mercer Estate. Wrapped in the jagged treeline of the Northbridge wilderness, it looks like a sanctuary for the elite. To me, it smells like old blood and stagnant power. It makes my wolf claw at the inside of my ribs.Modified snow-runners and heavy trucks clog the circular drive. The Alpha’s favorite son is hosting a pack rager tonight. Kai didn’t bother asking if I minded the noise, but that’s the hierarchy. It’s his territory. I’m just the stray he keeps on a leash. The glow from the console washes over me while a heavy, distorted bassline rattles the frame of the car. I find myself staring at the house, ruminating on the concept of "submission."Do you ever get exhausted by the performance? Don’t you ever wish you could just exist without the constant weight of the collar? In this world, if you’re a lone wolf, you’re a target—too unrefined

The pack moved in the second the ink dried. Ryder and Mason claimed the first floor, while Logan has the entire third floor to himself. My suite has its own private bathroom, but what’s actually useful is the double-entry door—it opens to the hallway so guests don't have to track through my personal space if I’m not in the mood for company. Not that anyone needs my facilities; this stone fortress has about twelve of them.Stepping into the steam, I snag a towel and hook it, then strip out of my shirt and shorts. I leave my underwear in a heap and crank the handle, letting the spray hiss. While the water climbs toward scalding, I scrub my teeth at the double vanity, trying to scour away that thick, lingering film of Northbridge leaf.I don’t even partake anymore. Not since the academy. I just hope the Alpha realized it was his own stash I used to light the fuse. I’d found it buried in his closet weeks ago while he was at the rink with his father. I knew it would be the perfect catalyst

I ease myself, my heart beats loudly while I breathe in the strong odor of Mercer Estate. I stop moving to hear the man next to me breathe in his normal sleep pattern. I totally forgot that Ethan crashed here at my place. The sticky warm feeling between my legs remains from what Kai and I did in the steam during the past few hours.I need to stop pretending to be dead so I begin to move my body while I watch Ethan. He stands up to pull his button-down shirt over his body while he button his shirt and then uses his hand to fix his disheveled dark hair."Morning," I mutter, my voice raspy, desperately searching his expression for any hint of what he might have seen on the pack-net last night. He leans over the mattress, bracing his hands on the silk sheets, and presses a chaste kiss to my brow. "Morning, Cain. Sorry, I’ve got to move."I let out the jagged breath I was holding. "You’re good." Thank the Moon."I need to track down my phone." He scowls, stepping into his slacks and slappi

KAI"Thanks for the lift," I tell Logan before hopping out of his truck. Since Cain turned my Sian into a bonfire, I’m grounded until my new custom build arrives.I was going to force him to drive me to the Lupercalia brunch with our parents, but he’s been ghosting since he slapped me in the kitchen.I enter the Mercer Estate and find the family already assembled in the formal dining room. Cain is seated across from his mother, head down, methodically stirring a bowl of broth without taking a bite.I slide into the chair beside him, making myself at home."Good afternoon, Kai." His mother beams at me."How was the Council trip?" I ask, playing the part of the dutiful son."Productive." Her blue eyes—so like Cain's—flick to my father, who returns her look with a calculated, charming smile. The house butler approaches my chair. "Something to drink, Master Kai?""Water," I say."I’ll take a bottle of the vintage red," Cain says, raising a hand."Cain, I don't think—""I’m of age, Mother,

I lick my lips just thinking about it.His fingers dig into either side of my entrance, spreading me as wide as my rim will allow. I bite my lower lip to stifle the whimper from the stretch. Then his hot tongue pushes inside me, and I shut my eyes, a muffled moan escaping.Letting go, he wedges an arm between my bound limbs and hauls me closer to his mouth. Half my back now dangles off the mattress, and I feel myself slipping. Or maybe that's the wine. I nearly finished that entire bottle myself at the Veil feast. He licks up my crack before sucking on my throbbing rim, and I start shaking. My eyes roll back. It takes a lot to get me off, and Kai knows this. He's the only alpha I've consistently let knot me who can make me come undone. He knows my body better than I do, and I despise him for it."Fuck, pretty thing," he growls before shoving two fingers into me this time, and I can't help the cry that tears out.I feel myself falling, then realize I have. My back hits the floor, air k
