Lahat ng Kabanata ng Mistaken Alliances : Kabanata 1 - Kabanata 10

It took an entire bottle of bourbon to make me forget what I had done days ago and an entire barrage of messages from Killian to bring me back to reality. I grimaced at my phone screen when another text from him popped up. This was his fifteenth one in three days and even after I blocked him, Killian still found another way to contact me.It was frustrating to say the least. I wanted Kade to fall for me and yet, I made his twin brother obsessed with me. Great going, Mia.I read the text this time, not ignoring it like I normally did. It’s been days Mia. I’m not sure if I did something wrong for you to ignore me so much but I can make it up to you. Come on, let’s have dinner with my family tonight. My treat. I promise to make it worth your while. I sighed and dropped my phone on my desk, my attention being pulled back to the mountain of files I had waiting for me. I needed coffee. I left my office and went down to the cafeteria, hoping that two cups of coffee would be enough to get me

I woke up the next morning to my head splitting in two from a migraine. I groaned and pushed myself off the bed, dreading the work day ahead of me already. After that dinner with Killian and Kade, well, the train wreck I barely survived, I had headed home and forced myself to go to bed. Unfortunately for me, my mind kept me awake for hours on end, thinking of how I would be able to salvage the huge mess I had gotten myself into.I sighed and wasted no time getting ready and soon enough I was at my workplace. Ferguson and Co. An accounting and litigation firm merged into one. We handled legal and financial matters. Recently I had gotten a promotion and now I was the managing director of the litigation team. The salary was decent but the work hours were gruelling.Still, I walked into the building, ready to start the day and get my mind off those twins. But it seemed the universe was against it because my phone buzzed the second I stepped through the door. Without looking I was sure it

By the following Tuesday, the entire office knew. I wasn't sure how it started. Maybe it was the way Killian had greeted me in the hallway that morning, loud and warm in front of everyone, like we were old friends. Maybe it was the way Kade had held the elevator door open for me with a look that a coworker described to me later as "loaded." Whatever it was, the whispers had started and they were not quiet. I ducked into the women's bathroom after overhearing two people from accounts talking about me by the coffee station. I stood at the sink, running cold water over my wrists, and stared at my own reflection. My phone buzzed. I looked down. Clover: We need to talk. Lunch? I texted back a yes and stayed in the bathroom for another full minute. When I finally came out, I nearly walked straight into Kade. He was standing just outside the door, reading something on his phone, and he looked up the second I stepped out. I stumbled back slightly and he put a hand on my arm to ste

I came in early Saturday morning and arranged two chairs across from my desk. When nine o'clock came and they both appeared in my doorway at the same time, their expressions mirrored one another in surprise. Neither of them had known the other was coming.Killian looked at Kade. Kade looked at me.I gestured to the chairs."Sit down. Both of you."There was a brief pause of the kind that happens when two people are deciding whether to make something out of a moment. Then they both sat.I stood behind my desk. I had thought about this all night. I had rehearsed it in the mirror this morning. I needed to say it cleanly."The blog thing is a problem," I started. "People at this firm are watching everything that happens with the three of us. That hurts my professional reputation and it becomes a distraction for the entire team. So whatever is happening between us on a personal level needs to be handled privately."Killian nodded slowly. Kade said nothing and kept his eyes on me."What I'm

Three weeks in, the gifts became something else entirely.Killian arrived at my building one Saturday morning with a driver and a blindfold.I stared at him from my doorway in my Saturday clothes, coffee in hand."No.""You said time with each of us on your terms," he said. "This is my terms for my day."I squinted at him. He looked genuinely excited in the way a child does when they've planned something they're proud of. It was disarming."Where are we going?" I asked."That's the point of the blindfold."I thought about it for three seconds."If you take me somewhere embarrassing, I will sue you. I have the credentials."He grinned. "I know. I've read your file."I put on the blindfold. He took me to a go-kart track in New Jersey. I laughed for the first time in days. We raced six times. I won twice and he disputed both wins loudly and unconvincingly. We ate hot dogs in the parking lot because neither of us wanted to stop.On the way back, with the city lights coming up around us, h
