It took an entire bottle of bourbon to make me forget what I had done days ago and an entire barrage of messages from Killian to bring me back to reality. I grimaced at my phone screen when another text from him popped up. This was his fifteenth one in three days and even after I blocked him, Killian still found another way to contact me.It was frustrating to say the least. I wanted Kade to fall for me and yet, I made his twin brother obsessed with me. Great going, Mia.I read the text this time, not ignoring it like I normally did. It’s been days Mia. I’m not sure if I did something wrong for you to ignore me so much but I can make it up to you. Come on, let’s have dinner with my family tonight. My treat. I promise to make it worth your while. I sighed and dropped my phone on my desk, my attention being pulled back to the mountain of files I had waiting for me. I needed coffee. I left my office and went down to the cafeteria, hoping that two cups of coffee would be enough to get me

I woke up the next morning to my head splitting in two from a migraine. I groaned and pushed myself off the bed, dreading the work day ahead of me already. After that dinner with Killian and Kade, well, the train wreck I barely survived, I had headed home and forced myself to go to bed. Unfortunately for me, my mind kept me awake for hours on end, thinking of how I would be able to salvage the huge mess I had gotten myself into.I sighed and wasted no time getting ready and soon enough I was at my workplace. Ferguson and Co. An accounting and litigation firm merged into one. We handled legal and financial matters. Recently I had gotten a promotion and now I was the managing director of the litigation team. The salary was decent but the work hours were gruelling.Still, I walked into the building, ready to start the day and get my mind off those twins. But it seemed the universe was against it because my phone buzzed the second I stepped through the door. Without looking I was sure it

The walk to my office felt like a funeral procession with an open casket, like everyone could see me dead and at my worst. The glass walls of the hallway were the windows of an aquarium. I and the Carter twins were on display for the people to watch. The moment the door to my office clicked shut, I rounded on them both."Get out of my company," I said, the tone sharp enough to draw blood.Killian didn't even blink. He sauntered over to my guest chair, and claimed it casually, propping his Italian leather loafers on the corner of my clean mahogany desk, right over the files I had just finished slaving over.My temperature heated up enough that I was turning red from the anger alone. Insensitive bastard. "Is that any way to speak to the man who just saved your firm from a rude collapse?" Killian asked, his eyes dancing with a manic, playful light."Saved?" I scoffed. My chest was heaving, my professional mask finally cracking under the weight of their absurdity. "You didn't save anythin

The rest of the day was spent with my brain oscillating between fuming and crying. They were both so stupid, so stubborn. I regretted even going to the dinner with Killian. Maybe if I had completely ignored him I’d still have my semi- normal life. Although, a deep, hidden, secret part of me wanted to see what would happen if I could let go of everything and watched what they had to offer. It was a good thing my logic outweighed my lack of inhibitions. An hour before I could officially leave, my office door slammed open, the echo ricocheting through my office like a gunshot. “Are you insane?,” I startled, frowning severely at whoever dared slam my door open without even knocking. “Mia.” Killian. Of course it was Killian. “What part of leaving me alone don’t you understand?,” I asked, my face scrunched into a pissed scowl. I was certain my face was red, not because I was flustered to see him but because my anger was rapidly rising. He paused slightly. “You can-“ “I can what

When Monday rolled in again, I was ready. I had my gameplan solid in my head, and I would face the twins with confidence.I wore my best blazer, a navy blue thing that brought out the subtle curves on my waist and made me feel taller. I wore it only when I had impossible negotiations, it made me feel less like an M.D and more like the owner of a multibillion dollar conglomerate.I walked leisurely through the company, grinning to greet the staff and even linking elbows with Clover on my way to my office.“You’re in a good mood,” she observed, bumping her hip with mine. Of course I was. For the first time since I met Killian, things were about to go my way with the Carter twins, not theirs.“Maybe.”“Your boyfriends took you out for the weekend?” Clover asked sneakily, the urge to gossip brimming in her eyes.I rolled my eyes and gave her a sidelong glance, pulling my arm out from her elbow. She snickered and held on tightly, a little too tight.“Fine fine I won’t tease you anymore.”
