Chapter 90: Choose A Pack

CANDICE."Come back to me."My knees hit the concrete before I understood what was happening. Lucian was nowhere in the corridor, yet his command wrapped around my wolf with enough force to make my bones ache. I pressed my palms against the cold floor and tried to push myself back up, but my body refused to listen. My human mind screamed at me to stand while my wolf lowered her head inside me, accepting an authority neither of us had chosen.Killian moved toward me immediately. "Candice, I'm here. Let me help you."A violent snarl tore from my throat before his hand reached me, and Killian stopped. The reaction had come from my wolf, not me. She recoiled from his Alpha scent as though he were another threat, and the black lines above my heart burned harder the closer he stood."Don't touch me," I warned, struggling to catch my breath. "Lucian's binding reacts whenever your Alpha scent gets close. I can feel it tightening around my wolf."Killian slowly lowered his hand, although every

KILLIAN."Get away from Sara! The binding is trying to transfer to the nearest Alpha."Aldric's warning tore through the restored pack bond, but I did not release Candice. I felt her fingers tighten around my arm at the same moment the black lines above her heart began spreading beneath her skin. They moved toward her shoulder, down her arm, and reached the exact place where her hand gripped me. The instant they touched my skin, my wolf reacted with such violence that I nearly lost control of the shift. He recognized the foreign Alpha power trying to force its way into our connection and threw himself against it, snarling inside my mind."Let me go, Killian," Candice ordered, trying to pull her hand away from me. When I tightened my grip instead, her eyes flashed with anger. "This is not the moment for your usual controlling nonsense. If you don't release me right now, I swear I will personally—"Pain cut off the rest of her threat. Candice cried out and folded against me, one hand pr

Chapter 92: Watch Me

CANDICE."Don't shift. It's wolfsbane strong enough to kill us in wolf form."I tore the edge of my shirt and pressed the fabric over my mouth, even though I knew it would do almost nothing against concentrated wolfsbane. The pale gas continued pouring from the vents, slowly swallowing the corridor as Killian threw himself against the steel door separating us from the prisoners. He gripped the edge and pulled, but the silver built into the frame burned his palms. The smell of scorched skin mixed with the wolfsbane before he finally stepped back."Stop doing that," I told him, searching the walls for another exit. "You can't open it with your hands.""And standing here waiting to die is better?""I never said that."My wolf was already retreating deeper inside my mind. She had barely recovered from the binding, and the wolfsbane was weakening her faster than I expected. My legs became heavy as I moved along the corridor, running my hands over the walls."Candice, stay awake," Killian w

Chapter 93: Paper Wolf

KILLIAN.“Candice, stop!”She ran before I could catch her. One moment she was standing in front of me, fighting Lucian's call with everything she had, and the next she disappeared into the smoke filling the underground corridor.I went after her immediately. “Candice, listen to me! You have to fight it!”She did not slow down. Her movements looked wrong, too fast and stiff, as though her wolf had taken control of her body while Candice's human mind fought from somewhere underneath.“Alpha!” Jonah shouted behind me.I looked back briefly. Jonah was leading the other Crescent Moon wolves toward the western tunnel, supporting one of the weaker prisoners with his arm around the man's waist.“Keep moving,” I ordered. “Get them out.”“What about the others?” Jonah asked.“Take anyone willing to follow you. I'll get Candice.”Jonah's expression tightened. “Don't die down here, Alpha.”“I wasn't planning to.”I turned and continued after Candice. The farther she ran, the stronger Lucian's Al

Chapter 94: Mother.

CANDICE.“Leo and Lia need you!”Killian's words were still ringing in my head when Lucian's blood filled my mouth. I did not understand what my wolf had done until his Alpha command shattered into a roar so violent that pain exploded behind my eyes. My jaws released his shoulder, but the taste of his blood remained on my tongue.“You stupid bitch!” Lucian roared. He struck me before I could move. My wolf flew across the chamber and crashed into a stone pillar hard enough to knock the air from my lungs. Pain spread through my ribs, but I forced my paws beneath me and stood again.Around us, the bound wolves began reacting. Some remained kneeling with their heads lowered, while others shook so violently their claws scraped against the stone floor. One man screamed and pressed both hands against his ears.“Return to me,” Lucian commanded. My body moved before I could stop it. One front paw stepped toward him, then the other began to lift. I fought so hard against the movement that my mu

KILLIAN.“Remember who you were before him!” I roared as thirty-two wolves howled beneath the earth. The sound was powerful enough to shake dust from the chamber ceiling. I felt the change before I understood what Candice had done. Lucian's Alpha aura still filled the room, but the unnatural pressure surrounding the prisoners had started to crack.Candice collapsed beside the stone pillar. Black blood ran from the broken mark above her heart, staining the front of her clothes. I moved toward her immediately, but her wolf growled beneath her skin when I came close.“I'm not touching you,” I assured her, stopping. “Just stay conscious.”“Wasn't planning on sleeping,” Candice muttered through clenched teeth.Lucian's roar cut through the chamber. “Kill him!”Seven wolves attacked immediately. The others remained where they were, shaking and confused, their bodies caught between Lucian's command and memories they had probably spent years believing were gone.I shifted before the first wol

Chapter 96: Bring Me Lia

CANDICE.“You have finally lost whatever sense the Moon Goddess gave you,” I told Killian, staring at the hand he held out to me.He did not lower it. “Probably. Are you really surprised?”“Both of you need to understand something,” Marcus called from the upper walkway. “A complete transfer is not the same as joining a pack bond. Killian would have to deliberately open his wolf to Lucian's binding and allow the artificial command inside him.”“And then?” I demanded, even though the fear tightening my chest told me I did not want the answer.“If Killian's Alpha strength overwhelms the mark, you will be free,” Marcus explained. “If it doesn't, Lucian could gain influence over Crescent Moon through Killian. The binding follows Alpha authority. Killian is connected to hundreds of wolves.”I turned on Killian. “You have two children inside that pack. Our children. You have no right to gamble their entire home because you feel guilty a

Chapter 97: Daddy Is The Road

LIA.“Daddy is hurting!” I screamed before anyone even opened my bedroom door. I sat up so fast that the blanket fell from my body, my hands flying to my chest even though the pain was not really there. It was inside the pack bond, louder than every wolf in Crescent Moon, and for one scary moment, I thought Daddy's pain would swallow all of us.Leo woke beside me and grabbed my arm. “What happened? Lia, why are you screaming?” he asked, looking around the dark bedroom as if someone might be hiding there. I tried to answer him, but too many feelings were moving through my head at once. Daddy was far away. Mummy was with him. I could feel her clearly again, brighter than before, and I wanted to be happy about that, but something dark had wrapped itself around Daddy. Then I heard the voice beneath his wolf. Bring me Lia. I covered my ears and squeezed my eyes shut, but the words did not disappear because nobody had spoken inside the room. “Stop it,” I whisper

Chapter 98: The Luna Returns

CANDICE.“Run, Candice,” Killian ordered, his voice breaking as blood ran from his nose. “Get out of this facility before I can't tell the difference between what I want and what Lucian is commanding me to do.”I tightened my grip on his face instead of releasing him. Marcus had already said the transfer was complete, but Killian remained on his knees, every muscle in his body shaking as he fought whatever Lucian had buried inside his wolf. Through the mate bond, I finally felt him again. His wolf recognized me. After days of emptiness, the connection should have been everything I wanted, but Lucian's command was tangled through it like something rotten. Bring me Lia.“I did not spend four days chained underground to leave you after thirty seconds of difficulty,” I told him. “So stop wasting your breath.” Killian gave me a look that would have frightened most wolves. “This is more than difficulty, Candice. My pack bond is open, and Lucian is already learning how to move through it.”M

Chapter 99: There’s Someone Above Him

CANDICE.“Lia, are you hurt?” I demanded the moment my daughter's voice entered my mind. My grip on Killian and the pack bond almost slipped at the same time because hearing Lia this way was nothing like speaking through a phone. Her presence felt silver and warm, wrapped around the same blood instinct that had allowed her to find me even when Lucian buried my mate bond.“My head hurts a little,” Lia admitted quietly. I knew my daughter well enough to understand that a little probably meant far more than she wanted to admit. “Leave the pack bond right now and find Grandpa Aldric,” I ordered. Lia immediately refused. “Grandpa is already beside me, Mummy. Daddy's bad voice is spreading through everyone.”Killian stiffened in my arms before I could answer. His fingers dug into the floor as Lucian's command moved through him again, louder and stronger than before. Return to Crescent Moon. Bring me Lia. Bring the child north. I felt the order travel through Killian's Alpha bond, spreading
