the wedding mess

Pearl’s P.O.V.“Jack will not be able to take his hands off you tonight, Pearl. You look stunning.” My younger sister, Sapphire, gushed while looking at me through the mirror.I blushed while looking at the bride in the mirror. The smile on my lips widened a little. The light green color of the gown had a hint of white with a floral pattern all over the skirt, light green small diamonds embedded in the floral belt around the waist, and a deep V-neck with a light green floral net as the sleeves gave me a conservative look with a hint of allure as the neck shape bordered by the floral embroidery and small diamonds enhanced the shape of my bre*st.I have a model-like figure with heavy br*asts, and with a good height of 5'7", I was truly looking stunning. With light makeup, paired with diamond jewellery, it really made me look different from my usual look. I looked beautiful, and somehow, I was now eager to see Jack’s reaction when he would lift my veil.My heart was now racing a bit in a

not about us

Pearl’s P.O.V.“How is he?” I asked my father anxiously when he entered my room with a grim and exhausted expression.I didn’t know why they all stopped me from going with Jack to the hospital. I was feeling trapped, and this feeling was suffocating me. My parents went to the hospital with Jack and his family, but left me with the rest of my family.“He is still in surgery. She not only thrust the knife inside his stomach but twisted it cruelly before anyone could push her away,” he replied to me tiredly while going towards the couch. All my friends who were sitting there immediately stood up, leaving a good space for him.“I want to go there, Dad. I am his fiancée. I should be there, not here.” I spoke frantically, restless, anxious, and scared.“You can’t go out, Pearl. Try to understand the situation.” Dad replied to me with the same thing that he and mom had been saying to me since they took Jack to the hospital.“And why can’t?” I yelled out of rage, glaring hard at him.“I am hi

Pearl’s P.O.V. (Continued)No one answered immediately. And that silence—“The doctors suggested another option,” Aunt Sofia said, her voice barely above a whisper now.My heart was pounding so loudly that it drowned out everything else.“What option?” I asked in a whisper. Her grip on Evan tightened.“Th… the doctor suggested th… that if …. If Evan can get the umbilical cord blood fro… from any of his siblings or…. Or a cousin…..” Aunt Sophia spoke in a very shaky and fearful voice. Her voice trailed off.Because I understood.Too clearly…..Too suddenly.A sibling.Or a cousin. My stomach dropped. My mind raced. I didn’t need to be a genius to connect the dots here.Jack…Arthur…Vera…Me…My breathing became uneven.“That’s why…” Sapphire’s voice came out shaky. “That’s why you arranged Pearl and Jack’s marriage?”No one denied it.That silence confirmed everything.I felt like the ground beneath me had disappeared.“So that their child…” Sapphire continued, her voice trembling, “could

Pearl’s P.O.V.“Ms. Pearl Nickelson, do you, in the name of God, take Mr. Arthur Froste as your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish and obey, until you part by death?”The words echoed around me.But they didn’t reach me.My eyes, hidden behind the veil, were unfocused. I didn’t know where I was looking… or what I was hearing.Everything felt distant.Muffled.The only sound that truly registered was the howling of the wind inside my head.“Ms. Nickelson?”Someone called again in a bit of a loud voice this time.God!!!!It was really happening. If someone had told me yesterday that I would be standing at the altar with a man who was still mourning his dead wife—who died three years ago—and that I would be nothing more than a means to save his son…But not only was I standing in front of that man…I was marrying him.And the worst part?I chose to trust him instead of the fa

things are not simple

Pearl’s P.O.V.I looked around at an almost empty room with a blank gaze. The room was big with only basic furniture, and the grey and white paint on the walls and roof made the surroundings gloomier than ever. But this was what I needed right now. Some alone time. After everything that happened today, I needed some alone time to stay sane.On the right nightstand, there was a photo of Arthur, Vera, and newborn Evan.Vera was smiling widely; Arthur also had a small smile on his lips. He was holding both Vera and Evan protectively.A perfect picture of a loving family.I felt nothing when I saw this photo. What’s in there for me to feel? This was Arthur’s personal space, and Vera and Evan are the most important people in his life.Arthur brought me to his penthouse instead of taking me to his parents’ mansion.I didn’t ask, and he didn’t explain.I was so exhausted that I just wanted to drop dead instead of thinking about anything else.My hands holding the edge of the mattress tremble

the first question

Arthur’s P.O.V. (Continued)Sapphire was so quick on her feet that she was beside Pearl in no time.“The zipper got stuck,” Pearl answered her, but looked between Sapphire and me with a furrowed brow.“Let me help you, sis.” Sapphire held her hand and dragged Pearl inside her room again.I could see that Pearl wanted to ask again, but Sapphire didn’t give her time to dwell on what we were talking about earlier. And I was glad about that.Pearl had a good business mind, and I admired her brilliance, but Sapphire was more cunning and sharper when it comes to the grey side of life. It’s good that Pearl had Sapphire, and Sapphire had Pearl.I sighed and put down the spatula after stirring the ingredients a few more times.I dialed my assistant, Paul Bishop’s number, while preparing a salad.“How is he?” I asked him calmly when he picked up the call.“We got them to our base, Mr. Froste.” He replied to me in a grim tone.My jaw clenched for a few seconds, but I had anticipated this move.“

what exactly they want

Pearl’s P.O.V. (Continued)Sapphire looked at me in a daze, processing what I just asked.I didn’t speak again but kept my gaze locked on her.The ticking voice of the wall clock in the living room was like someone stabbing my head, but I kept myself calm, giving Summer time to process everything.Sapphire was a genius kid. She wasn’t kind-hearted like me.Dad and Mom were always busy with family affairs and business. So, it was I who was with Summer after her birth.I could say that I raised her, and after I found out that she had a brilliant mind, I did everything to groom her into the beautiful and intelligent person she is now.So, it took her less than a minute to understand a few things about the whole conspiracy.I couldn’t say the whole thing because I was still trying to make sense of the whole farce.“Damn it.” She cursed, banging her palm at the edge of the table, and looked in the direction, her face turning darker with every passing second. At the same time, my phone buzze

two opposite forces

Pearl’s P.O.V.Sapphire tightened her grip on my hand, but I continued circling at the back of her hand to keep her calm when I was also feeling suffocated.Arthur’s presence alone was enough to feel an immense pressure on you, but with Victor Wilson, their family doctor and the best physician, it felt like something serious had just invaded our personal space to a suffocating level. What a contrast….Both Arthur and Victor were calm, composed, and observant…Both Sapphire and I were tense, going through an emotional turmoil, still reeling on what’s going on, and what to do next.I was sitting on the long couch with Sapphire while both Arthur and Victor took the single couches. It had been a few minutes since we all took seats after Arthur unexpectedly came back with Victor, and since then, none of us had said a word, escalating the tension in the air.I took a deep breath and looked at Arthur with a calm expression. He looked at me with the same blank and detached gaze.“What are you

a decision for me to make

Pearl’s P.O.V.My free hand fingers curled into my palm.Nine months….Enough time for a fetus to develop into an infant, ready to deliver at any time if any reason can’t complete the gestation period. My hands trembled again, but I was still calm.It sounded like a sentence to complete in jail, but this was also a time window for us to protect everything and everyone dear to us.“You have a special constitution, Pearl. Your medical profile shows a higher-than-average probability of conception during ovulation. That increases chances… but does not ensure immediate success.” Peter explained to me in a serious tone. The harsh realization hit harder than I had anticipatedThey usedMy parents thought that they had hidden a very rare medical condition that I had very well from me, but I knew about it.Now, I knew why they were so desperate for me to consummate my marriage.“Given the window, you still have twelve hours of precious hours of your ovulation period, but.” He clicked his tongu

no turning back

Arthur’s P.O.V.“I married you, Arthur. And after yesterday’s farce, I have no desire to be a divorcee in the future. It’s not on me, but on you now.”Her words echoed in my brain until the door of her room closed with a soft click. The calmness in her voice stirred something inside my frozen heart.I asked her to trust me, and she did.She had no obligation to save Evan, but she is now determined to fight this battle with me.She didn’t say it, but I could feel it in her words. She made her decision.A decision that neither of us had truly been prepared for.My gaze was still fixed on that closed door when Sapphire’s voice broke through the silence.“This shouldn’t be like this. She was supposed to be happy, not…..”Her voice was sharp, unfiltered, filled with all her resentment and pain for her sister.I didn’t answer her, but looked at her.Her eyes were red, but steady and glaring at me with accusation.“Don’t give me the s**t about this is her decision, or…. Or she chose logicall
