Irene's POVI dabbed the makeup sponge carefully along my jawline, blending the purple and yellow pigments until they looked like fading bruises. The mirror showed exactly what I needed. A face that appeared to be healing, but still damaged enough to be believable."Not bad," I murmured to myself, tilting my head to examine my work. Irene’s POV I checked my reflection one last time in the hallway mirror, making sure the fake bruises were still convincing under the chandelier lights. The purple and yellow pigments were steady, looking appropriately faded but still visible. It was perfect.Taking a deep breath, I smoothed down my dress and headed toward the dining room.Alastair was already seated at the head of the long table, his attention fixed on his phone as he ate. Irene's POVI stood in front of the mirror, smoothing down my Academy uniform one more time. The deep blue fabric fit perfectly, and for once, I actually looked forward to getting dressed. My fake bruises were still convincing and visible enough to maintain the illusion.A small smile tugged at my lips despite everything. I was going back to the Academy. I did a little dance around the room as I packed my makeup supplies into a small pouch then tucked it into my bag. Just in case the bruises needed touching up throughout the day. The last thing I needed was someone noticing they had faded too much.My new supplies had arrived yesterday in the form of fresh notebooks with the Academy seal, proper sheet music, even a metronome.
