Dorian I could not sleep, so I left my bedroom and walked down the quiet hallway toward my private study. As I turned the corner into the carpeted corridor, I saw her. She was walking quietly, holding a folded white sheet against her chest. She had not heard me coming yet. In that split second, before her eyes lifted to mine, my wolf moved. It did not ask for permission. It surged forward with absolute certainty, recognizing her completely. Before my mind could talk me out of it, I stepped into her path. I moved slowly, keeping my hands where she could see them so I would not startle her. I reached out and gently took the heavy sheet from her hands, setting it down on the wooden bench beside us. "Wait," I said softly. She froze under my touch, but she did not pull away. Her body went completely still, the kind of stillness that comes when someone has already decided not to run. I placed one hand against the side of her neck, my fingers sliding under her uniform collar. R
