I lean closer, my gaze dropping to his lips, mirroring the way his had lingered on mine just seconds ago. “Yeah?” He closes the distance too, slow, deliberate. “Oh, yeah.” My nails trail upward, brushing over his chest—light, almost absent, but intentional enough to make the air shift between us. God—he smells too good. “Careful,” he murmurs, his voice low, just inches from my mouth. “If you keep this up… you’re going to be here a lot longer than a few minutes.” I let the silence stretch, thick and charged, the space between us shrinking to almost nothing. “I have a different idea,” I let the moment hang just long enough to make it dangerous. “What?” There’s barely any distance left now. I can feel his breath. See the exact moment his focus locks in—when he decides. He moves in— And right before his lips touch mine—my palm presses hard against his chest. I shove him back. “Never sounds better, don’t you think?” He laughs. Low. Surprised. Didn’t expect that. Good.
