Logan’s POV "She's alive." The words barely registered. I had heard them, but my mind seemed unable to process them. I stared at the paramedic. "She's alive?" I asked. "Yes,” he replied. My knees nearly gave out. I closed my eyes for a second and released the breath I had been holding. Nia was alive, but when I looked toward her, relief was immediately replaced by fear. She still hadn't opened her eyes. "Why isn't she waking up?"I asked and the paramedic glanced toward the medical team. "We're still assessing her,” he replied. "What happened to her?" Had he understood what Matteo was planning? Had he found Nia? That last question was the one that hurt the most. I kept seeing her face from the video. My little girl, frightened and alone. I had promised myself that I would protect her and now I didn't even know if she was safe. I pressed my fingers together in my lap and forced myself not to cry.
