Maggie grunted, taking her seat.“What I've been trying to tell you for the past few minutes, Jacob.”“Okay…” he drawled, eyeing Henry with distrust as he walked further into the dining room.“His name's Henry, Gareth Henry. He used to teach Rosie and Lena back at Eden, and now he's their lecturer at Everest.”Henry stood up, sticking his arm out.“Good day, Mr Duncan.”“I think I remember you…” Jacob said, taking his arm in a firm grip. “I particularly remember my wife getting up as early as five am to make you those cinnamon rolls.”He didn't seem very happy reliving the memory and he sure as hell was letting Henry know.Henry chuckled. “I wasn't aware Mrs Duncan went through all that—but I can assure you, everyone loved her cinnamon rolls.”“Of course they did.” Jacob muttered, letting go of Henry's hand as he took a seat.Henry took his too.“You're joining us?” Maggie asked in surprise.“What does it look like, woman?” Jacob grunted.“A few minutes ago, you were too busy to join

I peeled my eyes open as my stomach growled in protest.(Guess your fasting phase has come to an end.)“Shut up…” I groaned, struggling to stand up from bed.I trudged to the bathroom, choosing to wash away the tears and filth first.I peeled my clothes off my body then turned the shower knob.“Fuck…” I exhaled, shoulders sagging in relief as soon as the cool water touched my skin.I took my time, rubbing and scrubbing. As if that would cleanse the events of the day from my mind.By the time I was done… I felt much better.I slipped on my bra and panties, then a large t-shirt and shorts.I combed my hair, pulling it into a loose bun, then I headed downstairs. As expected, the house was quiet.Even when mum wasn't working, she always found a way to keep herself busy.“Like running away can solve anything.” I murmured, heading to the kitchen.(Says the person who does nothing but sit in unprocessed feelings.)I scowled, pulling the fridge open.“I guess noodles would do…” I hummed, tapp

I snuggled further into the pillow, inhaling the sweet masculine scent.Masculine? My bed smells like jasmine not— I shot up, wincing slightly as my head pounded. My eyes roamed around the dimly lit room, taking in the dark walls and big bed. Finally—They landed on him. He sat bent over a book, glasses perched on his nose as he scribbled steadily. The events of the day flooded into my mind and I found myself blushing.“You're awake,” Henry said, still scribbling.“Yeah…” I croaked. “How long did I sleep for?”He dropped his pen and stood up.My eyes followed his movement as he went to his mini fridge. He pulled out a bottle of water, and headed towards me.“Drink,” he said, passing the water to me.I took it, my gaze falling to the bed as our fingers touched.I unscrewed the cap and downed the water in one go.Fuck, I really was dehydrated.“Today is Sunday.” Henry said, walking back to his seat.“What?” I screeched.“And you're still naked.” He noted.I glanced down at my body, che

The ride back home was filled with an uncomfortable silence.I stared at the passing scenery outside the window, while Henry drove.“I feel like you're angry,” Henry said, breaking the silence inside the car.“You feel?” I mocked. He exhaled heavily.“Don't tell me this has something to do with Linda—”“Oh it's Linda now huh? You're suddenly on a nickname basis.”Fucking Linda. As if they were still close enough to shorten names and reminisce over coffee.Annoyance etched into his features.“You're not seriously blaming me are you?”“And why shouldn't I blame you? After all, your gentlemanly act is what gives them the balls to flirt with you.”He rolled his eyes. “What would you have me do, Rosie? Frown or scream at every lady who walks up to me?”“Yes.” I deadpanned. “I would be glad if you'd stop smiling at every fucking lady you meet.”“That is insanely absurd, Rosie.” “Whatever,” I muttered, staring back at the window. And so, the silence returned, stretching between us.I watch

I shot up, eyes wide in panic.“Rosie?” Lena called. “Are you there?”“I am.” “Okay… I'm listening.”“Well…” I drawled, scratching my neck softly.“Don't even think about lying to me.” Lena cut in. “I swear I'll come to your house and annoy the shit out of you till you talk.”“Don't you think that's a bit dramatic?” I muttered dryly.“Talk, Rosie.”I climbed down from the bed and began pacing my bedroom.“I don't know how to put this, Lena.”“Put it anyway… trust me, I'll understand.”I bit down on my lip, feet tapping the floor.“A few weeks ago my mother introduced Henry to me… as her fiancé.”“What?” Lena screamed. Her voice was so loud that I had to pull the phone away from my ear, wincing slightly.“Her fiancé?” She echoed.“Yeah…” I mumbled, leaning on the door.“Damn… so Henry will soon be your stepfather?”“I guess…”“Wow… now I understand why you were sneaky and protective.”That definitely isn't the case… but oh well.“I'm so sorry about what our classmates said—”“Trust me
