Chapter 62Soraya’s POVMy heart shot straight into my throat. John had just thrown himself over the balcony railing into the dark, foggy courtyard below, leaving me standing in the pitch black with his final, terrifying warning echoing in my mind. Don't trust the triplets. The cylinder in my hands felt like a block of solid dry ice, the faint blue light pulsing rhythmically against my skin, sending a low, static hum vibrating all the way up my arms. I had less than five seconds before the doors swung open. I couldn't let Jax see this. I couldn't let Lucius analyze it. And after the secret "deal" I had overheard Silas discussing with Matthew downstairs, I couldn't trust a single word that came out of his mouth.Panicking, I dropped to my knees and shoved the freezing mechanical cylinder deep beneath the heavy velvet mattress, pushing it as far back into the frame as my arm could reach. I scrambled back to my feet, smoothing down my green dress just as the double doors clicked open.Ja

Chapter 64Jax’s POV‘HELP’I bolted upright in bed, my lungs screaming for air as if I had just been submerged in freezing water. I clutched my shirt over my heart, my palms slick with cold sweat. I couldn’t have imagined her voice or did I?"Soraya," I choked out, the name tearing from my throat as my pupils dilated, my vision instantly shifting into the sharp, golden tint of my Alpha sight. Before I could even throw the heavy velvet covers off my legs, the adjoining door to the suite’s common area slammed open. Lucius stood in the doorway, his chest heaving, his face completely pale. His silver-flecked eyes were glowing fiercely in the dark. He didn't need to say a word. He had felt it too. The psychic shockwave had hit him with the exact same brutal force.Across the room, Silas was still buried deep beneath his blankets, snoring softly. The contrast made my blood run cold.I vaulted out of bed, lunging across the rug, and grabbed Silas by the shoulder of his shirt, shaking him vi

Chapter 66Soraya’s POVIt felt like I had taken a hammer to my head. The blinding white light of the laboratory had faded into a dim, sickening red. Every breath I took felt like inhaling liquid fire. The blue fluid they had pumped into my arm was throbbing through my veins, making my skin feel raw and boiling hot. I tried to lift my head, but my muscles were completely unresponsive. It pushed me from the inside out forcing me to want to give up and accept the darkness that I suspiciously believed to be death,Then I saw them. The triplets had been captured. For a brief second my heart skipped a beat and I let myself hold on for a second longer. The second my eyelids fluttered, Jax’s head snapped up. His golden eyes were bloodshot, completely wild with panic."Soraya," he choked out. He thrashed against the chains, the metal clinking loudly against the floor. "Soraya... God, look at me. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."I tried to speak, to tell him it was okay, but all that came out of my t

CHAPTER 68Lucuis’ POVThe chains clattered to the floor, but I didn't waste time rubbing my bruised wrists. I immediately lunged toward the main terminal, my fingers moving as fast as I could looking for a way to turn off the weapon or a self-destruct button."Lucius, forget the computer!" Jax yelled as he ripped the remaining leather straps off Soraya. "We have to move!"Soraya collapsed forward into his arms. She was completely dead weight, her skin white as chalk, the dark blue veins on her neck pulsing with a sickening light. She couldn't even hold her head up."The main hallways are locked down. Matthew’s strike team is coming back," John rasped, coughing up a dark speck of blood onto his bandages. He pointed a heavy flashlight toward a rusted ventilation grate near the back of the vats. "There’s an old maintenance drainage tunnel behind that wall. It leads straight out to the eastern perimeter woods. Move."Jax didn't hesitate. He scooped Soraya up into his arms, pulling her ti

Chapter 70Jax's POV“I honestly don't care about his age, we can here for a reason-Before I could complete my statement heavy footsteps were heard eclipsed with the mahogany doors exploding inward.Guards burst into the room and attacked. I hit the floor hard, the air violently leaving my lungs. A cold, silver-tipped barrel pressed firmly against the back of my neck, forcing my chin down against the rug.Internally, I was screaming. My chest felt like it was being ripped open by a dull blade. I spit a mouthful of blood onto the fancy rug and let out a dry, bored chuckle.Slow clapping echoed from the hallway. Matthew walked into the room, looked down at me, a smug, venomous grin stretching across his face."I expected better from the great Alpha triplets," Matthew said, his voice entirely different now—losing the slightly raspy, older cadence he’d used before. "Sneaking through the drainage pipes? Really, Jax? It’s almost pathetic how easy you guys are to predict."Behind him, anot
