Chapter Thirty-TwoElara’s POV Train with you? What was his plan? To keep me here until Kai returned? "What's your plan, huh?" I looked at his face for a minute. "I'm not interested." "Okay." Lucian shrugged. "Then don't bother asking about Sarai." He turned back toward the training area and threw another punch into the heavy bag. Deep down, I needed to know what Sarai's plans were, who she truly was, and who I should be looking out for. Yet trusting Lucian was almost impossible. How did he even know about her? "Alright," I sighed. "I'll join you." Lucian's smile widened, like he'd expected nothing less. "I knew you would." I signaled Nala to wait for me. Lucian tossed me a pair of worn leather training gloves. "Put them on." "I thought I was meant to watch while you talked." I frowned. He chuckled. "You can't even keep your balance and you want to just watch?" "I've never done this before," I glared. "I know." He folded his arms. "That's exactly why we're starting. s

~Chapter Thirty Four~Kai’s POV Rain was rolling in as I marched across to the hospital where the survivors were, questions weighing heavy on my mind. If Kelvin’s intel was correct about the patrol attack, I needed to hear it from the witnesses themselves. Kelvin had come to me after Elara left the office with something that made me pause. He had gone over the attack report again and noticed something about the crest placement that didn’t sit right with him. It was too deliberate like whoever left it wanted it to be found. To be honest, after hearing that I just realized my pack enforcers had missed something they shouldn’t have. They were always meant to be trusted with the duties of investigating crime, attack scenes properly before reporting back to me. Now if what Kelvin implied was true then someone planted the evidence perfectly to lead everyone to Ironstone. I had doubted Ironstone would attack first when things between our packs hadn’t even reached that point. Yet the

~Chapter Thirty Six~Kai’s POV Elara was becoming harder to deal with. She interpreted my decision from her human instinct instead. My guard, Nero, called me out of the room at the perfect time. Talking to Elara in her state was like pouring water on a camel's back. Human instincts were fragile and soft, just as she was, and I wasn't going to let that interfere with my Alpha duties. I still couldn't tell if everything she had said back in the room came from fear... or if she truly meant it. She cared about me? She had to be kidding. If I gave her the slightest chance to return to that homeless town of hers, she'd run without looking back. That much, I was certain of. "Our mate truly cares," my wolf added. You simply fail to see it." I ignored him. "Alpha Kai," Nero called, stopping before me. He held out something in his palm. "One of the patrol men found this rank seal at the ambush scene." I took it from him, turning it over between my fingers as my eyes scanned every

~Chapter Thirty Eight~ Elara’s POV Lucian looked at them with a stiff face. “After that, you will be hanged, and your flesh will be fed to the wild wolves.” My breath caught in my throat. Hanged. Wild wolves? No, that was too much for one person to bear. I wouldn’t stand there and do nothing. They muffled sobs even more now, pleading for a chance. Before I could stop myself, the words burst out. “Please have mercy on them, Lucian.” “Mercy for traitors?” Lucian snapped. “They only deserve worse.” He added, pointing to the standing captains. “And this is a warning to any rank member who thinks to go ahead of themselves.” I shook my head, looking at Kai, hoping he’d agree with me and decide to have mercy on them. But Kai looked away. Kelvin’s expression on the other hand looked satisfied. “So this is it, Alpha Kai? You’ll just let them die?” I asked, turning to face him. My heart was beating faster. “Guards,” He gestured with a nod. “Take them to the dungeon as your Supre

~Chapter Forty~Kai’s POVI tightened my grip around her neck. “What did you just say to me, Zara?” “You...” She coughed, trying to breathe. “You used to be better at caring before you became the Alpha.” She swallowed hard. “But now you've changed towards everyone, including me.” My grip loosened around her neck as she coughed, breathing faster while pulling back like I had frightened her. No one, including Zara, truly understood me. Was I supposed to devote all my time to her? My jaw tightened at her words. “You have no idea what it means to lead this pack to this point, keeping you all safe with my narcissistic brother and a whiny sister who has refused to grow up.” I pointed a finger at her face. “You better get your shit together if you don’t want to see how bad of a brother I am.” I turned to leave, my heart beating faster than it should. “You didn’t have to scold her,” my wolf said. “That was the only way to speak some sense into her,” I replied. It hurt speaking to my
