Reed’s point of view."Mom.”.I caught up with my mother as she went through the private elevator. .She shut the door before I could get in. Fuck! I took the next elevator and met her close to the door of my office. Her heels struck the marble floor in sharp, furious clicks. Every step carried the storm brewing inside her. By the time we stepped into my office, the air between us had turned heavy.I shut the door behind us…."Mom."She spun around so quickly that I almost took a step back. "What exactly was that nonsense out there?" Her voice cracked through the room like a whip. "Is this how I raised you?"I opened my mouth, but she didn't let me speak."Is this why you refused to take over the family business? So you could hide here and play games with your employees?"Her eyes burned into mine. "How many female staff members have you kissed in this company, Reed? How many?"I clenched my jaw, my hands curled into fists at my sides, but I forced myself to stay calm. "You know me bett

Nova's point of view"Yes, sir." I sounded like a child being scolded. Reed's expression shifted for a fraction of a second, but he didn't say anything, instead, he walked ahead and opened the passenger door.I lowered my head and quietly climbed into the car.. A second later, Reed leaned over me and I stiffened immediately, his arm brushed against mine as he reached across me and pulled the seatbelt over my chest, the buckle clicked into place. The way he was so careful almost burst my brain, like I was something fragile that might shatter if he didn't hold me together himself.I didn't say a word, Reed closed the door, walked around the car, and slid into the driver's seat, the engine started and a very uncomfortable silence settled between us. I stared out the window while streetlights blurred past us. When the car finally slowed, I looked up to see tall gates opening silently. We drove into a private estate and my eyes widened. The first time I'd come here, it had been dark, we'

Nova's point of view I tightened my grip around my bag and walked out of the police station as soon as the officer disappeared down the hallway."Nova." Reed caught up with me in three long strides. "Nova, wait."I stopped beside his car and looked straight ahead. "Let's go."His brows pulled together. "What do you mean, let's go? We need to wait for the chief officer."I opened the passenger door. "No. Let's go."Confusion flashed across his face, but God knew, I didn't have the strength to answer. For once, he didn't push. He walked around the car, slid into the driver's seat, and started the engine. I stared out the window, Reed kept glancing between me and the road.Twice, he opened his mouth…twice, he closed it again and I was grateful, because if he asked me one more question, I might break….and I couldn't afford to break. Not now… not when Elsa was sitting alone in a cell because of me.I should have known it was Keal. Who else would turn cruelty into a hobby? It made perfect

Nova's point of view The moment the door of my car slammed shut, my body broke. A sob ripped out of me so violently my chest folded inward and I hit the steering wheel repeatedly."Stupid." My voice cracked. "You are so stupid Nova." Tears blurred everything…God…what was I thinking? What exactly had I expected? That I would walk into Kael's office, demand Elsa's release, and he'd suddenly discover a conscience?A broken laugh escaped me and I pressed my forehead against the steering wheel. My shoulders shook. What if Margaret hadn't walked in? The thought alone made my stomach twist.I squeezed my eyes shut, refusing to think about it, but my mind kept dragging me back to the disgusting look in his eyes……and it made me sick.I grabbed a scarf from the back seat and wrapped it around myself with trembling fingers. My clothes felt wrong, everything felt wrong. I wanted to peel myself apart and start over, instead, I started the car and drove, not to the house, not to Reed aunt's mansi

Nova's point of view When I was sure I didn't have the energy to cry anymore, I stumbled to my car, locked the door, then my phone began to ring. I scrabbled for it in my bag, the caller ID flashed Damon's name and I sighed loudly. My head hit the steering wheel, my finger roving around the end button. After the fourth ring, I eventually hit the receive button."Nova."His voice cut through the panic. "Where are you?"Words tumbled out, I wasn't even sure what I was saying. “Nova… calm the fuck down!” Damon yelled, and the shock really shut me up.Damon swore softly, then his voice suddenly hardened. "Get in your car and come to Reed's apartment… ..Now."Forty minutes later I stood outside Reed’s door. Damon took one look at me,then immediately pulled me into a hug."Damn."His voice softened. "You look awful."Fresh tears burned my eyes. "I need Elsa." My voice cracked. "I need to find her."Damon guided me inside, sat me down, handed me water, then finally spoke. "We know the polic
