EMILY, HANNAH The dining room was unusually quiet that morning. Sunlight streamed through the enormous windows, spilling across the long mahogany table and catching against the polished silverware. I hated that the more Roman told me not to trust him, the more questions seemed to rise inside me.Across the table, Roman calmly lifted his coffee cup. “I need you to know something, Mikhail.” Mikhail looked up. “Yes, Father?” “You'll be traveling to Florida today.” Mikhail nearly choked on his coffee. “What?” Roman didn't even blink. “Your private plane is already waiting.” Mikhail slowly lowered his cup, staring at his father in disbelief. “You're telling me this now?” “I didn't see the need to tell you earlier.” “Father, you couldn't have told me yesterday?”
