All Chapters of Rooming With The Enemy: The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate: Chapter 31 - Chapter 40

RhettThe next day, I am regretting telling Savannah that we would go out for a date right after practice. My body is aching so much and I just want to sleep, but canceling on her would probably send the wrong message across. I needed to stop pulling away from her no matter how much I wanted to, because I was also avoiding problems with my father. I stand in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of my button-down shirt, my jaw is a little tender, but I cover it up the best I can. I’m spraying some cologne when Cassian leans against his closet door, watching me with that classic, annoying smirk on his face.“Wow. Really going all out for the little wife, huh?” he mocks, crossing his arms.“What can I say cassian, she’s my fiancée.”He looks annoyed but then the look is quickly replaced. “Well, use enough of that so she do doesn't smell traces of me on your skin.”I suck in a sharp breath, gripping the cologne bottle so hard I think it might crack. “Shut up, Cassian,” I growl, not

CASSIAN’S POVIt’s stupid. I have no business suggesting this, but the thought of Rhett being played by his perfect little girlfriend makes a strange part of me want to interfere.Since I met her, I've always felt like something was off about her, but I had no way to prove it. And I just chastised myself for being paranoid, and also for worrying about him when it was none of my business. We end up driving out to a local hardware store to get the small, wireless cameras. There’s an old man who’s already packing things up with his grandson, but he stops when he sees the two of us. “Are you two here to buy something?” he asks. “Or to steal?”Rhett and I look at each other and laugh.“To get some things,” Rhett finally says when he realizes the man is serious. “But hey, I get why you’re worried.”I do too. When two muscular guys enter your shop when it’s the middle of the night, and it’s just you and a child, not worrying would be the wrong thing to do.“Hey,” Rhett begins in a softer ton

RHETT’S POVI have gotten so used to Cassian being an insufferable, talkative asshole that the rest of this week feels completely off to me. There are zero—and I mean zero—snarky remarks from him. He hasn’t pulled a single prank on me to rile me up, he isn’t sabotaging my clothes, and he isn't even coming to my hockey practice to make people spread rumors about us anymore. He’s just acting like a ghost in our own room. But today, that doesn’t matter. It’s Friday, and I’ve just won a big hockey game. I am glad because this time around I was the one who scored all the goals and without any major assist, so there’s nothing for my father to complain about. But thinking about it, my father is a dick; he is going to find one problem or another with the game and my show of dominance—or lack thereof.Instead of going to the house party to celebrate my win with the team, I am heading straight to the cottage with Savannah. Some of my teammates had called me a simp in the locker room, mocking me

Rhett’s POVCassian: No promises, Rhettie Bear. Me: Fuck you. Cassian: You’re so desperate to fuck me, jeez.I grit my teeth together in annoyance, but still, a small part of me is amused by how Cassian manages to make a joke out of every single situation. I slide my phone into my sweatpants pocket and step out of the car with the hot box of pizza. The rain has stopped for now, and I can’t help but love the petrichor. I make a mental note to get the additional groceries out of the backseat much later. Right now, I need to get inside before Savannah starts wondering why I am sitting in the driveway on my phone.I open the front door as quietly as possible, stepping onto the creaky floorboards and walking down the hallway toward the kitchen, but she’s not there. Neither is she in the bedroom.I take a detour toward the library. The door is open, and when I look through, Savannah is sitting casually in the reading nook by the window. There is a small reading lamp glowing next to her, a

Rhett’s POVI walk out of my dads office, my head spinning with all the lies he just fed me.As I make my way toward the dorms, I see Savannah walking down the road toward me. She’s wearing a tank top and some legging, slightly sweaty. I can tell she went for a jog despite the blazing morning sun tyat makes her engagement ring is sparkling in the sun. The moment she spots me, she flashes me a sweet smile. The smile has never given me butterflies, but there was a time I liked seeing it. Now it actually just makes me… paranoid? Suspicious?“Hey, love,” she grins, slowing to a jog. She gives me a half side hug and I try to reciprocate as much as possible and hide the glare on my face. “Hey,” I say, stepping back a little bit to look at her. “Sorry I can’t hug yoh well,” she tells me, breathlessly gesturing to herself. “Kinda sweaty.”“It’s cool babe. And I’d hug you anytime, even if you’re soaking with sweat.” The lie rolls off my tongue with ease that I am even surprised at myself .
