LENAI sat still on the bed in the healer’s room and my eyes were eyes because I couldn’t sleep, my legs dangled at the edge of the bed as I stared at the dried blood stick under my fingernails. The blood wouldn’t come off, so I scrubbed my fingernails again until my skin turned red. Nothing remained beneath them anymore yet every time I looked down, I still saw his blood.Every time I closed my eyes, all I saw was the assassin smiling and his words echoing in my head, “they said you died.” A chill ran down my spine and I snapped back to reality.
