The Warning My pulse quickened immediately. Below in the courtyard, Darius folded the paper carefully once more, his expression unreadable again,but the damage had already been done. I saw the reaction. And now I couldn’t unsee it. Kael said something quietly. Darius’s jaw tightened. Then, without another word, he turned sharply and walked back toward the fortress entrance. Fast,too fast. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Kael remained standing near the gates as Darius disappeared inside, his warriors silent behind him. For one brief second, Kael looked upward,toward my window and our eyes met instantly. A strange expression crossed his face. Not arrogance, not regret but urgency. Then he stepped back, allowing the gates to close between us. The bond pulsed violently. Closer. Darius was coming back.
