Chapter 210. Felt at Peace

Amee Wilson POVMy face contorted, and my eyes stung. Seeing Olivia and her family around me made me feel less alone.Ivy still stroked my belly, and I sighed. I wanted a baby girl like her—gentle, compassionate, and utterly sensible.“Auntie Amee, you are not happy. Zoe visited you?” I glanced at Olivia’s other girl and smiled. She looked utterly cute when her lashes swept her eyelids. She was making cute pouts at me, and I couldn't help it. I reached out and pinched her cheek lightly.“Auntie Amee, don’t do that, or your daughter will look exactly like me. Leo will complain, and Ivy will not like it. She will be jealous.” She told me with the honesty of an utterly cute child.I grinned.Zoe yawned, and I realized that they had overstayed. It was way, way past their bedtime.“Go home. The children are sleepy.” I told their mother, but Ivy protested.“And who will watch over you and the baby, Auntie Amee?”“I can manage. Besides, there are nurses here. They will watch over me.”“I wil

Chapter 211. Don't Have Any Illusions

Zeke Alexander POVI watched her face in my sleep. Until now, I could not believe that I was lying here in her hospital bed next to her, with my arms around her while her cheek rested on my chest. From time to time, I could feel her nose twitching, sniffing my scent. And then, she would lay her cheek next to my shirt again contentedly.I don’t love her. I know I don’t.But I am beginning to see her in a new light.I wanted to be a part of our baby’s life. I wanted to be a father. I was sure of that. While she slept, I asked an executive in the firm to draw up a trust fund for our baby. I wanted to ensure that our child would have anything my money could offer.“Zeke,” Amee called my name.I thought I was dreaming, but she said it again.Immediately, I opened my eyes, and what greeted my sight was a white ceiling. I was disoriented at first, but then I heard her call my name again.“Zeke.”“Yes,” I asked, instantly alert. I tried to recall where to find that button to call the nurse st

Chapter 212. Left Me Frustrated

Zeke Alexander POVI fumbled for words.I wanted to correct her. To let her know that wasn't what I meant, but Amee didn't look willing to change her mind, with or without an explanation. She already made up her mind about me. And forcing the issue now would only make things worse. And then I realized. What am I going to say to her?I can’t promise a lifetime because the only person I'm willing to take in and make room for in my life right now is our baby, not her.I sighed and tousled my hair. And then, I stepped back and stared at her sad face. Somehow, the look made me hurt as well. I was thinking of putting distance between us to make her hurt less. And maybe that was the right thing to do.I received a notification for a message. It was Olivia. She said she and the lawyer had arrived at the hospital. I told Amee, and she nodded.I also received a message from Lucy. She was asking about Amee and apologizing that she had gone ahead last night without informing me.I called her.“Wh

Chapter 213. Agree on Being Parents First

Amee Wilson POVHe was staring at me with a look of frustration clearly spreading all over his face.I shook my head because I did not like the effect his look had on me. It was unnerving. Like he wanted to delve deep into my soul to see what was written underneath. In truth, I did not want to be affected. I wanted to end this talk with my pride still intact. And last night? Said the tiny voice in my head.Again, I shook my head to dispel the thoughts that suddenly barged in.“Last night was an exception. I had given in to my craving. I won’t do it again.” I told him to end the impasse between us so Olivia and the lawyer could go back here and we could thresh out everything, and Zeke Alexander would be out of my hair for good. The disbelieving look on his face made me waver.I almost shrank on the bed when he got closer. His eyes never left mine.He looked intimidating. He looked like the rich man that he was.But I had known him for years. I knew that that intimidating look was manuf

Chapter 214. What Has Gotten Into Him?

Amee Wilson POVA moment of silence passed between us before Zeke reached for his phone.“Who are you calling?” I asked, belatedly realizing it was an inane question. Of course, he was calling Olivia and the lawyer back. When his call connected, I felt it again. That feeling that my life is going to change permanently and I am powerless over it once our agreement pushes through.“Do we have to do this now?” I asked without looking at him.He spoke briefly on the phone. “Olivia. Sorry. I will call you back.” He told her, and then he ended the call and focused his attention on me.“The agreement would make everything legal and binding. It will also secure the baby, especially when it comes to its needs. The sooner we do this, the better it is for our child. I want to provide for him and make sure that everything he needs is met. And I don’t mean financially only. I wanted to make sure that I will be compelled all the time to be there.”I grimaced when I heard his last sentence.I shook

Chapter 215. No Love. Just Mutual Respect

Amee Wilson POVOlivia stared at the closed door Zeke had just come out of. Then she looked apologetically at the lawyer she'd brought.“Mr. Marcus, thank you for your time.” She shook hands with him. “I wanted to escort you out, but I need to talk to Amee first.”I wanted to argue. I wanted to assure her that I am fine. But knowing Olivia, that would be futile. I should sit tight as well and let her.Mr. Marcus waved her off. “I can see myself out. Good luck, Ms. Wilson. And Olivia, thanks for this opportunity.”“Thank you, Mr. Marcus. I will let Grandpa know about how you helped my friends. I appreciate it a lot.”Mr. Marcus grinned. He looked like an affable man. Easy-going. Must be because of his age.“It’s always a pleasure to work with Jonathan’s family. Take care.” Mr. Marcus left, leaving me with Olivia. When the door closed, she turned toward me and fussed on my bed covers. “You need to rest. Do you need anything?”“I am not tired.”“Okay. Then, I will sit with you here, and

Chapter 216. Squeezed Tight

Zeke Alexander POVI had been rude. I realized that I had been disrespectful not only to Amee, but to Olivia and Attorney Marcus, as well. But the damage has been done.Quickly, I fished my phone out of my pocket and called Lucy.“I was an idiot,” I told her when my call got through. For a moment, there was silence on the other end, and it made me think that the call was cut off. But then, Lucy’s voice came back on the line.“Sorry, I just had to step out for a while to take this call. So, what were you saying?”Now that I had thought things through, I realized I had been hasty. I floundered for words.“Uhm.” I gulped, and that’s when I heard her laughter.“You were telling me that you were an idiot, right? How come?”I thought she did not hear me. Well, what should I expect from someone who works for Josh Morgan Sterling? Lucy is sharp and intelligent, of course! And now, she was openly laughing at me.“What did you do this time? I hope that Amee was still standing. With the way you

Chapter 217. I Can Do This

Amee Wilson POVAfter Olivia left, my stomach grumbled, and I realized I hadn't eaten anything for breakfast. I wasn't hungry earlier because I'd had a late-night feast, but now my stomach is protesting that it’s hungry. The food attendant had already delivered my daily ration, but when I looked at it, I wanted to cry.Two bananas and a pancake. My mouth is salivating for what I ate last night. Burgers, milkshakes, and fries.I was about to turn my back to the table that also serves as a bed tray when I heard a knock on my door.“Come in. The door is open.”I thought it was one of the nurses out to check on me, but I was surprised to see a food package first. A man’s hand was holding it.I watched in anticipation as the food got inside my room, followed by a tall man.Zeke Alexander.“I brought food.” He said. The sight of him put a smile on my face, especially when he told me he brought breakfast. The aroma of the burgers filled my nostrils. I sniffed to get a long whiff and let the

Chapter 218. For Our Family

Zeke Alexander POVShe is the most frustrating, irritating, and annoying woman I know. And I told her so.She shrugged her shoulders.“It’s fine. I had been told worse.” And then she reminded me of my own exact words. “I am scheming. I used this pregnancy to baby trap a certain wealthy man.” It was clear that she was jolting my memory to that day in my hospital room where I clearly denied the baby and her.And just like that, my anger was instantly gone. It was replaced by something else. Guilt.I felt guilty for accusing her and saying so many things. All deplorable.“I am sorry,” I said outright. She nodded. “It’s alright. You did not say anything that was not true. I have schemed to get you. I betrayed my friend’s trust. I might not be a good role model for the child.”I raised my palms. Because she was on a roll. She was painting a bad picture of herself, and it made me feel worse than guilty.I feel like I have corrupted her. Yes, she had conspired against me. She tricked me. But

Chapter 219. Silent Peace

Zeke Alexander POV“Did I take it if the breakfast did not go well?” Olivia asked, sitting across from me at the hospital cafe. She had gone on with her shift, but when I called earlier, she told me to meet her here. She was between shifts, and this was her break.“I have not even asked about you, and you are already scrutinizing me,” I said. She was draped in a scrub suit, and she looked like she needed something to fill her up.“Sorry. I just came back from an emergency surgery.”I noticed the creases on her forehead.“You looked tired.”“I am. But you are hedging the question. What happened with you and Amee? I thought you were making progress.”She sipped at her cold drink while I took a bite out of my salad. This is more like the meal I preferred, but it tasted bland. Maybe because I had so many things in my mind right now.I swallowed, and then fixed my gaze at Olivia.“Amee is a tough nut to crack.”“You hurt her.” As expected, Olivia’s taking her side. I checked myself. I want
