Josh Morgan Sterling POVThe police had been called in. They were here to meet with us five minutes later. We were in the conference room. Grandpa, Roy, and I when they arrived.Lucy insisted on joining us. When she learned that Olivia had been taken away, she rushed back to the office. She was panting when she came in.“What happened?”I told her and the police what happened since I was there when it happened.Immediately, Lucy pointed her index finger at me. There was so much hatred in her voice.“It’s all your fault. You didn’t protect your wife from your mistress." She lashed out.The accusation stung.“Why do you keep on insisting this was Daisy’s doing? She can’t plan a crime as large as this one!”Lucy was surprised when I lashed back, but the hatred never left her eyes. In fact, it had intensified when I defended Daisy in front of her.“If you are suspecting a possible kidnapping, who do you think has the motive?”I remained quiet in my seat, but I could feel Grandpa’s stare b

Josh Morgan SterlingIt’s been months since Olivia’s disappearance, and until now, there has been this crushing pain inside of me.And I can’t really blame anyone but me. I was a horrible person. Even Grandpa Jonathan was not talking to me. In the last months, we had become estranged. I sighed frustratedly.Olivia had only loved me, and what did I do in return?I used her fascination, her infatuation, and love to my advantage.“Josh, enough.” Daisy grabbed the shot glass in my hand, causing me to stiffen at her sudden disappearance. For a moment, I lost track of the shot glass as my unfocused eyes shifted to Daisy.“What are you doing here?”I was stationed in a bar outside New York because I wanted to indulge myself in alcohol without putting too much strain on my pristine image. But it was hard to fake it.Every day, I go to the office, acting nonchalant as if everything in my life is the same, but when everyone leaves, and I am alone, I often think about the last ten years of my l

Josh Morgan Sterling POVI raised my champagne glass in the air, faced the crowd of employees, investors, business partners, and clients of Sterling Enterprises over the years, and made a toast.“To all the years of success! To Sterling Enterprises!”The crowd chimed with me. There was a look of adoration on their faces. They were celebrating my success.A practiced smile came to my lips, but it never reached my eyes. Then, I lifted the rim of the champagne flute to my lips and took a sip.The guests did the same.We all drank the champagne, and then applause echoed around me.I stepped from the podium amidst applause. It had been five years since the board of directors gave me full control of the conglomerate, even without a wife and a child. Grandpa stepped down and let me run the business the way I liked. He became silent, too, staying in the background most of the time.In the last five years, the business has become a huge success! Our assets doubled. Our projects were all sold o

Olivia Barnett POVZeke looked hesitant when I confronted him about my still being married to Josh Morgan Sterling.“It had been five years, Zeke. Why didn’t you tell me?” I demanded.“You are trying to heal your broken heart, and with the pregnancy, the baby’s arrival, and your new career path, I do not know how to bring it up without digging up past hurts.”“Still, you should have told me,” I said in the silence that momentarily arrested the two of us. “To think that I accepted your wedding proposal. Zeke, what if Josh finds out, and he turns the tables on me? What if he accuses me of infidelity?”I was already pacing the floor, thinking of the legal ramifications of this recent discovery.I wanted to cuss and shout, but I could not blame Zeke. When I told him to handle my divorce for me, I never once inquired about it. It was like I put everything about my marriage to Josh on the back burner.“For God’s sake, you could have told me before you proposed. You know that I wouldn’t accep

Josh Morgan SterlingI was in a meeting when one of my people from immigration tipped me off that Olivia had arrived in the country from Heathrow International Airport in London. My fingers gripped the phone in my hand.My expression was one of disbelief as my heart began to race wildly in my chest.“Are you sure?”After I got his confirmation, I shut my eyes, feeling the weight of the last five years easing out of my shoulders.I took a deep breath, trying to take it all in.It had been five long years since she disappeared without a trace. Five years of wondering if she is alright. Is she happy? Is she safe?I wondered what she looked like right now.Is she married?Would she care to see me?I began to breathe laboriously at the thoughts circling in my head.Hesitation filled me, but I brushed it off. The excitement of seeing her after five long years was more than enough to push me forward.I did need much prodding. I shot from my seat, disrupting the meeting and ignoring the curio
