All Chapters of My Heart Beats On Inside Him: Chapter 1 - Chapter 10

Mom raised her hand and slapped Kendrick hard across the face. "You weren't this desperate back when our families were social equals, Kendrick. You've suddenly learned how to kneel and beg now that you're bankrupt and on the verge of death, huh?"Kendrick kneeled in the pouring rain, refusing to leave until he saw me.I allowed him in since the doctor said he would likely die if he didn't return to the hospital. I was sitting on Daniel's lap while he was standing there in a miserable state. I slowly read aloud the love letter he had written me, saying, "I'll provide you with the best future, Jasmine."I let out a derisive laugh and tore his heartfelt letter to pieces. "You can't even afford your medical bills, Mr. Fisher. What kind of future could you possibly give me? Do you intend to give me your bloodied lungs, your failing heart, or that pocket change from moving bricks at a construction site? "You can still walk out of here alive if you get lost right now; otherwise, you'll

It was then that the light in my former bedroom lit up.It was Diana Chadwick, my family's former housekeeper. She had insisted on coming to clean my bedroom every week for years. She must have been exhausted from the wake during the day and accidentally fell asleep in my bedroom.Diana yawned as she went to open the door.I, on the other hand, looked at Kendrick in a panic. He had already stopped in his tracks, staring fixedly at the silhouette on the window. He then asked coldly, "Do you regret it, Jasmine?"Diana's hand stopped mid-motion on the doorknob."I came today to tell you that I'm getting married," Kendrick said as he took out a photo from his pocket, and under the moonlight, one could see clearly that it was Yvonne. "She was the one who stayed with me through every heart attack during these past five years. Her father even mortgaged his property to fund me when the Ziegler Group went after the Fisher family."He lightly touched the photo and asked with a faint chuc

Kendrick stared down at the torn death certificate in his grip, his chest heaving. He scoffed, his gaze turning chillingly intense. "You're trying to fool me again, huh? You're still putting on a show, even now?"He slowly shredded the death certificate, letting the pieces fall from his grip. However, the name "Jasmine Lawson" on those pieces felt like a branding iron, causing his hands to tremble. In that instant, everyone in the room held their breath. It was obvious to everyone that Kendrick was on the verge of a breakdown. It was quite odd, though, as the Lawsons remained completely still and silent. Their expressions held no fear, just profound grief. Mom even managed a weak smile, though it was far more devastating than watching her cry."You bunch of lunatics!" Kendrick hissed through gritted teeth, then turned on his heel and stormed out.It was the following day when Fisher Group made a massive public announcement about Kendrick's engagement to Yvonne. Those prominent fam

I wished so badly that Kendrick could have just lived his life without ever finding out the truth.Mom stumbled over to the memorial altar and picked up the stale box of cotton candy nougats. "Jasmine was still holding onto this the day she died…"There was a crumpled piece of paper inside that box of nougats. "You must live a long and healthy life, Kendrick."Kendrick's hands shook as he unfolded the slip of paper. He suddenly broke into a violent coughing fit. He spat a mouthful of blood across the paper, smudging the handwriting. He then fell to his knees, his voice completely cracking while sobbing. "I've come back too late, Jasmine…"I was eventually cremated and placed into a small urn. I was laid to rest while it was drizzling.Kendrick collapsed in front of my tombstone, his black suit completely drenched by the rain as he remained completely motionless like a statue. He repeatedly traced my name on the tombstone, the pads of his fingers wearing down to blood, the rain car

Kendrick continued, "You were the one responsible for arranging the shirts in the wardrobe every morning, for turning off the coffee machine in the middle of the night, and for putting away all the documents in the study!"I felt my heart nearly stop—if a ghost could even have a heartbeat. I realized then that he had actually noticed all those subtle things I did without even thinking. I then laughed through my tears, exclaiming, "You're such a big dummy for only noticing it now, Kendrick!"Kendrick suddenly laughed through his tears, looking like a kid who just got a piece of candy. "I heard that, Jasmine."I didn't know how much time I had left with Kendrick. I could feel my soul fading by the day, to the point where even picking up a pen took multiple attempts. I still welcomed every single extra day I could get, though.Kendrick began learning how to pinpoint exactly where I was. He would suddenly look at my empty chair in the middle of business meetings and cock his brow sligh
