My ears were ringing. Everything felt slow and blurry. I blinked a few times, trying to focus. My side hurt badly and I could taste blood in my mouth. I turned my head toward Alan. He was slumped over the steering wheel, not moving. Blood was pouring down the side of his face and onto the airbag. His eyes were closed. “Alan?” My voice came out weak. “Alan!” I screamed on top of my lungs as it clicked to me even more, the image that was before me. He didn’t respond. Panic hit me hard. I reached over with shaking hands and touched his face. “Alan, please. Please wake up.” My fingers came away covered in blood. I started breathing faster. “No, no, no… please don’t do this.” I tried to unbuckle my seatbelt but my hands were trembling too much. I kept looking at him, waiting for him to move, to say something, anything. He just stayed slumped over, completely still. “Alan, please,” I whispered, tears falling down my face. “Don’t leave me, not like this.” I heard sirens
