At breakfast, the weather was so warm, sunlight spilled across the terrace of the Sapphire Coastline Estate, warming the stone beneath Verity’s bare feet as she sat across from Quentin at the breakfast table. Another was the ocean that stretched endlessly beyond the glass railing. A cool breeze moved in from the water, hitting across Verity's face. Breakfast was already spread between them—fresh fruit, toast, eggs, coffee, and the pastries Verity recently discovered she liked from a bakery in Malibu.
