The question hung in the air, and everyone tried to read Alex’s expression. His reaction would decide the answer to Maya’s question. Luther smirked. He set his glass down with a clink and stood up. Maya rolled her eyes. “Come on. Of course he’s the one who gets to make decisions without irritating Alex. The only person not scared of Alex in the whole of New York.” Luther just smiled. Obviously, that’s what he’d wanted all along. “Come on,” he said, looking around. “Suggestions, please. Emma, give a suggestion.” Romeo suddenly said Emma blinked. “Suggestion for what game? I don’t even know how to play.” “Come on, Emma, just say anything,” Romeo urged from his seat. She hesitated. “Um… I don’t know. But how about Color Name?” The room went silent. Then Luther burst out laughing, loud enough that the whole club could’ve heard it. “Color Name?” he repeated, shaking his head. “What kind of game is that? Come on, you guys, stop acting like you don’t know Emma stall

Romeo was still smiling to himself, leaning back in his chair with his arms behind his head. “Hey,” Timothy said, eyeing him. “You good? You’ve got that look.” Romeo didn’t answer right away. “I’m good. Just thinking.” “About Emma?” David guessed, smirking. Romeo didn’t deny it. “Careful,” Timothy said quietly. “That one doesn’t play games.” Romeo’s grin returned, slow and certain. “Good. Neither do I.” David leaned forward, half teasing. “But seriously though, do you actually like her? I mean, with her shape and all…” Romeo’s eyes flicked to him. “What do you think?” “I don’t think you’re serious,” David pressed. “I mean, out of all the girls here, you picked her?” Romeo didn’t answer with words. He just stood, grabbed his jacket, and headed for the door. “Well, think whatever helps you sleep at night,” he said over his shoulder. Then he was gone. ***** in the car, a cold silence settled between the three of them. Thomas shifted uncomfortably in t

So.. Finally, Maya broke it. “So, Benji… why do you always wear a mask on campus?” Maya said trying to lift the silence in the car No answer. It was like she hadn’t even spoken. “It’s because he’s a celebrity,” Emmanuel jumped in, saving her. “He doesn’t want crowds.” “Oh,” Maya said, nodding slowly. “But what’s the fun in being a celebrity if you can’t mingle with the crowd?” That got a laugh out of both her and Emma They fell into easy chatter, leaving Benji lost in his own thoughts He’d come earlier, ready to pick them up, in a good mood. But the moment he saw Emma, everything shifted. Before, all he’d seen was the chubby little girl from high school the one who always had coconut candy stuck to her hands. Now… now he saw a woman. A lady. Beautiful, in a way that made his chest tighten for no reason he could explain. For a split second, he had the urge to grab her, to kiss her. Thank God Maya had spoken when she did. He wasn’t sure he could’ve stopped himself. Wai

The blue room was quiet except for the low murmur of voices and the faint tick of the wall clock, like it was counting down to something. By the time Emma got there, the meeting was already halfway done. She stopped in the doorway, fingers resting on the cold metal frame. Inside, Maya was heading out, laughing at something Jonathan said. Both of them had just been cast in The Scar The director had made it clear they needed to coordinate, rehearse separately if they could, before the full cast run through. Emma didn’t step in. She’d never spoken to Jonathan before. He was the kind of popular that didn’t need to try captain of the debate team, lead in every play, the boy whose name was already on the school’s unofficial hall of fame. People like him moved through rooms like they owned the air. People like her learned to take up less of it. So she stayed back, half-hidden by the doorframe, watching. Maya talked to him like it was nothing. Easy. Her fingers brushed his sl

With her shoulder high she read from her “Good evening. We interrupt with developing news out of Queens. At approximately 3:40 PM today, authorities discovered the bodies of restaurant owner Marcus Clark, his wife, and their twelve year old son inside their home. Sources confirm all three died from gunshot wounds.” A photo of the Clark family appeared behind her frozen smiles that didn’t match the headline. “Police report that Mr. Clark, known for his home taste restaurant popular with local youth and public figures, Police report that Mr. Clark and his wife had engaged in a very heated argument, and based on their neighbors view they heard Mrs Clark scream for help ,the argument became so intense that he ended up killing his wife as well as his twelve year old son before taking his own life. Apparently he had called 911 just hours earlier. In that call he claimed he was in imminent danger and possessed a recording that implicated a very powerful, reputable family in the city.
