Tricia / Seraphina’s POVThe basement was cold and damp, the kind of cold that sank into your bones and stayed there. I sat on the cot, my back against the stone wall, and listened to the drip of water somewhere in the dark.Normally the old me would have cried by now, begged or apologized and even promised to behave and never do it again but that version of me died the day Maxwell threw me off that balcony and somehow…that seemed to bother him more than anything else.Maxwell stood outside the iron bars staring at me with visible irritation.“You’re really not going to say anything?” he asked coldly.I looked at him calmly.“What exactly do you want me to say?”His jaw tightened.“Beg.”I looked at him and laughed.“What?”“Beg for forgiveness,” he snapped. “Cry, apologize, anything, just do something instead of sitting there acting proud.”My expression remained unchanged.“No.”The silence that followed was heavy because Maxwell wasn’t used to resistance from me, he wasn’t expectin

Tricia / Seraphina’s POVEmelda didn’t let go of my hand the entire walk through the palace. She was eighteen, bright-eyed, and talked faster than anyone I had ever met.“Okay, so this is the east wing,” she said, dragging me past massive windows that overlooked the city. “Boring stuff, this is council rooms and Caspian does his Alpha things here, You’ll hate it, trust me,” she turned a corner and grinned, “this is the good part.”She pushed open a set of double doors and revealed a library that was bigger than the entire Silvermont pack house. Shelves went up three stories. A spiral staircase. Sunlight pouring through glass ceilings.“This is where I hide when Mom wants me to do etiquette lessons,” Emelda said. “Caspian used to hide here too when he was little. He hated sword training. Did you know he broke his instructor’s nose when he was ten?”I blinked. “He what?”“On purpose,” she said, laughing. “The instructor called our mother weak. Caspian didn’t speak to him for three days

Tricia / Seraphina’s POVThe Queen’s question hung in the air.“Tell us about your family, dear.”My fork froze halfway to my mouth. My wolf went still inside me, For a second, I couldn’t breathe.Which family? My real one? My father, the Alpha of Crestwood, who thought I was dead for three years? My mother, who cried herself sick every night I was gone? Or the other one? The family Maxwell forced me into? I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know how to explain three years of hell in one sentence. I didn’t know how to tell them that the missing Crestwood heiress had been living as a slave in Silvermont, scrubbing floors while her mate paraded another woman. The dining hall suddenly felt much quieter. I opened my mouth and then closed it again because I genuinely didn’t know where to begin but Thankfully, someone noticed.“Mother.”Caspian’s calm voice broke the silence.I looked at him immediately. His silver eyes briefly met mine then I felt t

Tricia / Seraphina’s POV“So you’re my second-chance mate?”The words barely left my mouth before Caspian’s smile appeared. He was surprised or shocked instead he appeared really happy. My eyes narrowed immediately.“You knew.”His smile widened.“It took you long enough.”I stared at him.“Caspian.”“What?”“You knew?”His shoulders lifted in a lazy shrug.“Of course I knew.”I felt personally offended.“What do you mean of course?”He looked entirely too pleased with himself.“Lycans usually sense mate bonds before other wolves.”My jaw slowly dropped.“You’ve known this entire time?”“More or less.”I couldn’t believe him.“Since when?”His silver eyes softened slightly.“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked. My voice was barely a whisper. “Why didn’t you say something?”“Because you weren’t ready,” he said.I didn’t know how to feel, he had known all along yet he never said a word or even pressured me. He never for once demanded anything from me. The realization hit harder than the

Tricia / Seraphina’s POVThe question hit me like a physical blow, my heart stopped and then immediately started racing.Panic flooded through me so quickly that I couldn't think or breathe, I couldn’t even process anything at that point. My knees hit the marble floor immediately. “I’m sorry,” I said, and my voice was shaking. “I’m sorry. I should have told you. I didn’t mean to deceive you. Please, I—”“Seraphina,” the Queen gasped. Her hands were on me instantly trying to lift me up. The Queen grabbed my arms and pulled me up, her face horrified. “Child, what are you doing? Stop that. Stop that right now.”I couldn’t stop shaking. “I’m sorry. I’ll leave. I didn’t want to cause trouble. I didn’t want to—”“You have done nothing wrong,” the Queen said fiercely. She held my face in her hands, forcing me to look at her. Do you hear me? You do not kneel in my house, not for anything.”Caspian was beside me with his arm around my waist, steadying me. “Mother, let me explain.”“Explain,”
