CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-TWOKNOX'S POVAt night, the rain started pouring so hard that it sounded as though the entire sky had opened above the mansion, while thunder struck repeatedly, shaking the walls with every deafening rumble. I sat up in bed, immediately sharpening my senses as I tried to perceive everything happening around me. My ability to perceive scents still hadn't sharpened enough, and the heavy rain only made things more difficult. The air was saturated with the smell of wet leaves, the moldy floor, and the damp earth surrounding the mansion, all of them blending together until it became difficult to distinguish individual scents.Still, my hearing remained sharp.
