The Young Maiden

CHAPTER 21 - THE YOUNG MAIDEN CASSIEL He shakes his head, his eyebrows hitched in a frown. “Im just as confused as you are. I don't know why they are requesting for me in particular.” “Why did you insist on being the one to go in the first place?” Michael asks, his voice filled with tiredness. “I felt if they were to demand for more blood for whatever reason else, it still has to be me to do it instead of drawing another one of our wolves into it.” Michael nods. “Fair enough.” Cody lets out a sound of frustration. “If you guys had just let me explain…” “That’s enough talking. You both will make me go crazy. Cody and I will go together. I want to see why they want my Delta.” “That means you will be gone for days?” Michael rubs the back of his neck. “You are leaving me in charge for days,” he murmurs. “I trust you and Melody to take care of things while I'm gone.” “I don't know about this.” Michael gnaws at his lower lip. “Why don't I and Cody go?” I gave him a look. “Since w

The Special Tea

Chapter 22- The Special teaCASSIEL My jaw drops. Never in my entire life had I seen a Delta placed first before An Alpha.Cody has the audacity to strut past me and give me a smug look.I nod to myself repeatedly. You might as well enjoy it while it lasts. The only thing we have in common with the witches is the forest but even on their grounds, there are herbs planted everywhere, different varieties of flowers that bends towards the maiden every time she passes them.Sounds of birds fill the places, a cat advances towards us, turning back to a witch and startling me.“Hi Sam,” he greets cherilly as he passes and regards the rest of us curiously.Young witches, who look barely above thirteen are casting spells at each other. One turns her friend into a frog and when she hops past me, I almost step on her.Samantha mutters something under her breath and the girl turns back to normal. She shouts thanks at her while the other curses at Samantha.I frown, realizing that taking only a f

This is About That Alpha

CHAPTER 23 - THIS IS ABOUT THAT ALPHAELARIS I found myself finding it to sleep that night, my mind kept running around the thoughts of the rogue council, my blood and the half broken bond still lingering. Knowing that Malrik won't be asleep at this time of the night, I went to find him in his study. The office is awfully quiet as I get closer. Usually I would hear the rustling of papers and tired sighs even from a distance.I knock on Malrik's door but don't hear an answer so I push it open. It’s empty. Where did he go so late at night? I'm about closing the door back when a bright red file on the desk catches my attention.I have never seen a file like that in the time I've worked with him. It looks different.Red stands for danger, doesn't it?My hand clenches around the door handle. No, I shouldn't snoop. It must be private. But I'm his fiance and righthand. What could he probably be hiding from me?My feet are moving towards the desk before I realize it. I picked up the file.C

Not a Permanent Cure

CHAPTER 24 - NOT A PERMANENT CUREGuilt fills me. Did I overreact here? I don't think I did but I don't like this bad blood going on between me and him lately. He’s right. Ever since Cassiel appeared, things have turned upside down between us. My eyes shift to the big avocado pears kept on the table and the small leather of salt he had placed alongside it. My eyes lower. Maybe I did too much today. I go down stairs to find Malrik sitting on the couch, staring blankly into space. His head turns in my direction as I come down the stairs. I stop at the bottom of it, unsure how to proceed from there. He gets to his feet, his eyes soft. “I don't want us to keep fighting anymore.” My hand tightens on the banister. Stop keeping things from me; I wanted to say but instead what leaves my mouth is, “Me too.” I add “You should go to bed, it’s late.” He smiles at me and settles back onto the couch. “I'm not feeling sleepy at all.” I walk over and sit on the couch, just enough space betwee

Take Me With You

CHAPTER 25 - TAKE ME WITH YOU CASSIEL My body tenses up. “How did you know?” The only person who knows about my blight is Melody and she was at the pack with me when Cody first visited them She smiles behind her tea cup. “We are witches. Since the time of my ancestors, we have been dealing in making medicines and healing. Every witch here can probably perceive the stench wafting off you from a mile away.” I resist the urge to sniff at my armpit but she must have guessed what I am thinking because she clarifies. “Just the witches. You smell perfectly fine to your werewolves. Drink up, it’s not poisoned,” she urges I take a sip of the tea, it has a sweet sour taste to it. I take a gulp and I can feel the effect working immediately, calming the blight down and making it a bit easier to breathe. I stare at my cup in awe. “What’s in this?” “Pure magic,” she answers dismissively. “You came here for...?” My mood spoils again thinking about the illness. I answer, “The blight. The

Using her?

CHAPTER 26 - USING HER? MALRIK I frown. “What?” “I'm your right hand, Malrik, but I've never been to any of the Lyxan meetings. You are always going with Jacob.” “That’s because I trust you to handle the territory when I'm gone.” She folds her arms over her chest. “Jacob can also do that. Perhaps, I could talk to the council about the blight ” No. I'm not taking her to a feet close to those deranged people. “You’re right.” Her eyes widen a bit, probably not expecting me to agree so easily. The egg in the pan is forgotten by her and I can see brown colouration on the egg from it starting to burn, but I don't call her attention to it. This should get her to relax from the cooking. “But not today love. My dear, please understand this. There are rules and I can't have you coming uninvited, no matter who you are to me. You can come with me to the next meeting.” Her face immediately brightens. This lie will probably come to hit me later but if I would give her peace of

You're Not Worthy

CHAPTER 27 - YOU'RE NOT WORTHY MALRIK “Was that empathy or love?” A warning growl leaves my lips. He smiles. “I'm sorry but we both know it is what it is. Why does she give a fuck about people that treated her as shit especially that so called mate of hers? She should break the bond and get it over with.” “She will. I trust her. I won't force her to do what she doesn't want to,” I say sternly. Jacob presses his lips into a thin line, but he backs off. “Alright, all good but don't come complaining to me when she leaves you for that mate of hers.” We arrive at the border and together with my warriors, we run deep into the forests until we are out of the forest and onto the human road where four silk black cars are lined up. Ready to take us into the human city when the Lycan council had built their base. Wolves wouldn't dare bring any war or attacks into the human cities. They fear their advanced defenses. ••• I arrive at the meeting room, much later than the starting time. Fo

Had Your Blood Examined

CHAPTER 28 - HAD YOUR BLOOD EXAMINED ELARIS. With Malrik having traveled, I decide it’s time to go back to Ashmere pack. It’s way past the due time, I told Cassiel I would be back. So I leave the care of the pack in the hands of the warriors, with the plan of only staying on the Ashmere pack for a few hours. There’s no way wolves that are sick wouldn't react to even a bit of wolfsbane. The situation must have gotten worse because of me and is seriously weighing on my conscience. I still can't believe Malrik would do something like that. I wonder if they have noticed it in my blood. I wonder what they all think of me now? What does Cassiel think of me now? Wait? Why do I even care? Soon enough, I find myself standing in front of the Ashmere pack again. Cody is standing at the border line and his face is blank, making it hard for me to read him. I keep my cool. “Im here to see Alpha Cassiel.” Was that a flash in his eyes? He replies, “You can come. He’s been waiting for you any

I See Red

CHAPTER 29 - I SEE REDELARISThe loud ringing in my ear intensifies. The walls seem to close around me. “What?”Cassiel decides to make it clear for me. “You injected your blood with wolfsbane.”There was no denying it anymore. I whisper, “It’s not what it looks like.”He stares at me with wide blown eyes, there's so much hurt in them. “Elaris, you aren’t even bothering to deny it. You poisoned my wolves.”Melody shakes her head, disappointed. “Elaris, there were pups there.”A sudden wave of annoyance rises inside me. Why do I have to be the villain here? Why do they have to be the ones who feel wronged?I should say Malrik did it. But Malrik was the one who provided me with everything I've been yearning for years, these wolves staring at me like this never treated me as one of their own. I wouldn’t degrade Malrik in front of them.I keep silent, my heart pounding against my ribcage. They can probably hear it but I don't care. I subtly scan all of them. Would I be able to take dow

Her Blood

CHAPTER 30 - HER BLOODELARISMy Lycan surges up in me and it takes everything in me to hold her back. The force of her fighting against me sends me stumbling back into Cassiel's desk. I try not to look at Melody and Cassiel. I force myself upright and walk briskly over to the door. Michael calls out from behind me. “You’re just going to leave?” I spin around to face him. My eyes must have been glowing from that of my Lycan because he backs off. “Carry on,” he says. I stand outside in the hallway, my Lycan pushes against my skin trying to get out. Mine! She snarls. No! He rejected us first, remember?. No! She’s beyond reasoning right now, so I stamp her down, until her protests go silent. My heart hurts, making it hard to breathe. This stupid mate bond still makes me feel things I'm not supposed to. I place my head against the wall, trying to calm myself down. I have shown them weakness, something I vowed would never happen again. The pain in my chest lingers and a part
