RIAN POVHe looked untouched by the war consuming his facility. No blood on him. No fear in his scent, though blockers flattened most of it into cold, expensive emptiness. His smile carried elegant amusement, but his eyes were fixed on me holding Lucien in the center of the destroyed office. "Rian, Rian," Damien said, clapping slowly again. "You think you can just walk in and take my property?" The room detonated. My pheromones exploded outward, pure Enigma rage, violent enough to turn the air heavy. The shattered door rattled against the floor. A guard somewhere beyond the hallway cursed and stumbled back. Even Kael's stance shifted under the pressure. Lucien whimpered once against my chest. My arm tightened around him, shielding as much as holding, but the rage did not vanish. It concentrated, a storm forced through the eye of a needle, every killing impulse aimed at Damien. "He is my MATE," I snarled, voice nearly unrecognizable, "not your property!" Damien's smile widened.
