Ella’s POVAt eighteen, I am officially recognized as an adult member of the Bloodmoon pack. I, along with other ‘greenies’ as what they call us, await the equinox ceremony.It’s basically the coming-of-age ceremony where members around my age awaken our true werewolf form.It’s what everyone has been preparing for. Everyone is tense because it is the moment that decides where we belong in the pack for the rest of our lives.They lead us into the Ashen Wilds. When we reach the clearing, the elders form a wide circle around us.The head elder begins the rite by calling on the moon goddess, and the rest of the elders join in. Their chants, their words pound in my ears and vibrate through my skin. It almost feels as if the words are etching into my skin and sinking into my bones… reaching into something deep within me that I can’t explain. Ella’s POVI wake up with my hope immediately shattered.Instead of Alden, the person sitting beside the clinic bed is Vera.“W-What are you… What are you doing here?”“Hey, lie down. You’re still too weak. Here, drink this…” Vera offers me a glass of water.My throat is too parched to decline her suspiciously kind offer, so I take the glass and swiftly empty it.“T-Thanks.”“You’re welcome. Oh, look at you poor thing. You look so pale! You shouldn’t force yourself too much.”I frown at her.“Please tell me exactly what you are doing here?”“Me?” Vera looks at me as if I asked her a stupid question. “Taking care of you, what else?”Either I’ve hit my head when I collapsed and I’m hallucinating now or I’m actually mishearing her. Because there’s no way Vera is suddenly acting kind towards me.“Come on, don’t give me that look.” Vera shakes her head. “I know I can be a bitch sometimes, but even I’m not that heartless. I heard you went to the packhouse to talk to Alden.”My ears perk up.

Ella’s POVI sit curled against the corner of my cell with my knees pressed to my chest while hunger twists inside my stomach. No one bothers bringing food tonight. Maybe they think a dead woman no longer needs to eat.The torches along the dungeon walls crackle faintly while footsteps echo through the corridor. I keep my head lowered and quietly watch the guards switch positions outside the cells.One sentinel leaves his post and another takes his place. The new guard lingers near my cell before lowering her hood slightly. I recognize him. It’s Ronald, one of the Gammas.“Ella,” he whispers. “Don’t react. Vera sent me.”Hope surges through my chest so suddenly that it almost hurts.“She did?” I whisper back.Ronald warily glances down the corridor.“Keep your voice down!” he hisses. “The other sentinels are still nearby and if they catch us sneaking you out, we’re both dead.”My pulse pounds against my ribs as I watch him fish out a key and unlock the cell. Ella’s POVFive years laterOver a hundred masked faces greet us as soon as the giant mahogany doors push open to our arrival.“The Alpha of Silver Moon pack, Zane Alder and his fiancee, Lady Lena White!” the staff announces.I take a quick look at the familiar ballroom. Five years have passed, and there are barely any changes here. If anything, they manage to keep their suffocating hobby of flexing their wealth by showering the place with the finest decorations that extend even to their servants.I bet they had the Omegas slaving away just to pull off this level of opulence.“How does it feel to be back?” Zane whispers.“Terrible.” I scrunch my nose. “It’s the same people. Alden’s POVThe beasts spread apart to reveal another bigger figure. This time, it’s a menacing black wolf.A deep scar slashes across its left eye while flames dance behind its massive frame. The bastard is enormous. Bigger than every wolf surrounding him and large enough to rival me head-on.What the fuck is this?Black wolves are rare among werewolves, especially Alpha black wolves.
