Lillian's POV Warm sunlight brushed against my skin as I stood barefoot on the shore. The ocean stretched endlessly before me, sparkling beneath the afternoon sun. A gentle breeze carried the scent of salt and flowers, and somewhere nearby, someone was laughing, a sweet laughter that made me turn. Hayes was standing a few steps away. He looked different here. There was no sternness in his face, no weight behind his eyes. He was smiling. Actually smiling. I laughed when he reached for my hand and pulled me closer. "You are going to get your clothes wet," I told him. "Then we'll both get wet." I laughed again. A small child ran past us, shrieking with delight before turning around and running back toward Hayes. "Daddy!" Hayes crouched and caught the child in his arms, lifting him into the air. The little boy laughed so loudly that I could not help joining him. I stood there watching them, my heart strangely full. Then Hayes reached one hand toward me. "Lillie, come here."
