The heater in Tobey’s sedan hummed quietly, blowing a soft wave of warm air that slowly took the chill out of Anika’s wet clothes. Outside, the rain was slamming violently against the glass, turning the neon lights of the avenue into blurry smears of green and red.Tobey didn't ask her why she was wandering the streets alone in a downpour. He didn't ask about Lark, the Emerald Lounge, or the phone calls. He just kept his eyes on the road, driving through the quiet streets until he pulled up to a small, low-key Chinese restaurant with steam fogging up its front windows.Inside, the restaurant was small and smelled heavily of garlic, ginger, and hot broth. They sat in a corner booth, away from the door.Within ten minutes, the waiter brought over two massive bowls of steaming Chinese noodles and a small, green bottle of warm soju. Tobey filled her tiny glass first, his face completely unsmiling but his movements surprisingly gentle."Drink," Tobey said bluntly, setting the bottle down.
