DANIELLA The bass from the speakers practically shook the glass in my hand as I stood near the bar on the crowded rooftop terrace. Everywhere around me, people were either laughing, dancing, kissing, or taking pictures in their graduation robes like tomorrow didn’t exist. Because tomorrow meant real life. Tonight was the last night we could pretend we were still college students. Golden lights hung across the massive rooftop overlooking the city skyline, reflecting off expensive dresses, champagne glasses, and polished black suits. Wolves, vampires, and humans mixed together like this was all perfectly normal. At Palisade Crown University. My throat felt parched, so I silently signaled the bartender for a drink. Just as he passed me the glass, my body jerked at the sound of someone clearing their throat loudly behind me. Shit. “I thought we already talked about this, Daniella.” My best friend, Zoey, gave me a look before pushing the drink back to the bartender. “Sorry, but

LEVI“Good.”My wolf purred with satisfaction, watching his mate stand up to us with fiery eyes full of defiance. He thought she was gorgeous when she was pissed, but he was more ecstatic that she wanted the mate bond. I ignored his reaction. Of course, she wanted it. Her life was in danger. I could only pat myself on the back for acting fast. If she’d rejected the bond before I did, I would have been the one brought to my knees instead. I didn't like this woman. I didn't even know her name, and I hated the universe for assigning a human as my mate. It was like some supreme power was trying to punish me. For what I did to my father. My face darkened after being reminded of those thoughts, but I forced myself to face reality. I needed to deal with this situation before it got out of hand. I grabbed Ariella's hand and turned around to leave, intending to put some distance between me and the human as soon as possible. But I had barely taken three steps when my chest began to burn.

LEVI The Grand Hall of Lycaon Palace glittered with wealth, power, and enough political ambition to choke a wolf.Crystal chandeliers hung from the vaulted ceiling, casting golden light across polished marble floors. Nobles from all three realms filled the room in expensive gowns and tailored suits, their laughter blending with the soft music drifting from the orchestra balcony above.Tonight marked six months since my coronation as Alpha King. Six months since the Three Realms Alliance had officially recognized my authority.By all accounts, I should have been celebrating. But instead, I was counting down the hours until everyone left.A vampire lord bowed his head as I passed, offering congratulations that I barely listened to.My mind wasn't on politics right now. Although the alliance was stable and trade between the realms had increased, I couldn't bring myself to care about it right now. Because no one in the room knew about my current predicament. After rejecting Daniella

LEVIAriella broke free from her friends' hold and pointed at Daniella.“Are you saying you'll declare war on the werewolves just because of her?” she demanded, disbelief ringing in her voice. “She's not even an elite. She's a nobody.”Nathaniel finally broke our intense eye contact and turned toward her. “That is correct, Miss De Belmont.”A stunned silence swept through the crowd.Ariella let out a sharp scoff, as though she couldn't believe what she had just heard.A growl built in my chest.Watching Nathaniel stand in my territory and speak to me so arrogantly grated on every instinct I possessed. No one had the right to threaten me in front of my wolves. Worse, he was doing it in front of my mate.My fingers twitched at my side.Nathaniel Kensington was only human. If I wanted to, I could cross the distance between us and snap his neck before most people even realized I had moved. The only thing stopping me was the knowledge that the consequences would be far more dangerous than

LEVII stormed out of the room without looking back, determined to put as much distance between myself and that infuriating woman as possible. Daniella might have thought she had won tonight, but she had another think coming if she believed I was going to make her my Luna Queen.I had barely reached the second floor when something twisted violently inside my chest.“Fuck.”The curse tore from my throat.Pain exploded beneath my ribs without warning, sharp enough to steal the air from my lungs. My vision blurred for a second as my knees threatened to give out beneath me.I caught myself against the wall with one hand, fingers digging into the stone.Another wave hit. This one was worse. It felt as though someone had reached inside my chest and wrapped a fist around my heart. My breathing turned ragged. For one terrifying moment, I thought I was having a heart attack. That's when I realized. We were now at the first stage of the mate bond. The stage where the bond refused to let mates
